We are finally having a snow day. I giggled when I heard a little voice yell, "Yes!" after looking out the window.
I'm still working on tonight's dinner plan. If I have all the ingredients, I may try a potato bacon chowder recipe I found on some blog. If not it will be spaghetti with italian sausage. Either way, a big green salad and some yummy artisian bread will round out our meal.

I had planned bison bratwurst and some side dishes...but dh woke up ill, so we may have to go with the BRAT diet instead.

Leftover Mexican flavored chicken soup with cinnamon tortilla crisps. Maybe some snow ice cream for dessert

We were just going to have turkey burgers and fries but I was inspired by yesterday's post and have decided to make lentil burgers for Husband and I and sweet potato fries for everyone to try.
We are expecting some icy weather within the hour so Husband is working from home. He put a fire in the fireplace and I made scones and muffins for breakfast. Is it bribery if I use this memory later on to get them to try the sweet potato fries?

Oh, I was going to make "Better with Bacon Turkey Chowder" from our new Rachael Ray cookbook, but I would LOVE to find that Potato Bacon Chowder recipe...
Either way, it will be some kind of chowder and beer bread - it's in the oven now and smells SO good. Maybe we'll have a baby today....

I'm not so sure about the Potato Bacon Chowder, most of the recipes that came up on my search have cream of chicken soup in them.
I have this recipe in my Chinaberry Cookbook
2 stalks celery
1 medium onion
2T oil
6 medium potatoes, cubed
2 carrots, sliced
3 cups water
5 chicken bouillon cubes
3/4 tsp seasoned salt
1/2 tsp thyme
1 tsp rosemary, crushed
dash pepper
2 cups milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Saute celery and onion in iol in large kettle until tender. Add the next nine ingredients. Cover and simmer about 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and mash potato mixture with a potato masher. Add milk and cheese. Cook, stirring constantly until cheese is melted. Do not let soup boil. Serve immediately.
I'll change things around a bit, use my homemade chicken stock (thanks to all your suggestions, it is really yummy! ) and probably saute the onion and celery with some of the leftover bacon grease.

Marilyn, I used this recipe, but just the basic, not the cheddar/dill. I used one of my husband domestic porters - hope he don't mind!

We're having Mashed Potato Soup with fresh baked bread my dd is making. Probably a tossed salad or coleslaw. No dessert unless I have a brainstorm and a burst of energy.

Polska Kielbasa, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes here.
We had a foot of snow this weekend and now it's really, really cold. It was -35 degrees last night.

Goodness, Monique! -35 stinks.
I'm about to toss Jambalaya with some super Andouille Sausage in the crockpot for a late supper tonight. It'll smell fantastic, I'm sure!
