Does anyone know of a US source for golden syrup (not Karo syrup). It is a syrup made from sugar cane.

Thanks,

I believe a friend of mine used to get it at Trader Joe's.

Besides Lyle's Golden Syrup, which is from England (that's what Stef posted above), there's an American Brand, Steen's Syrup, also available from Amazon. This is a richer taste than Lyles, which is lighter.

King's Golden Syrup usually found in the grocery stores is a blend of corn and cane, so you don't want that.

How about making your own?

I don't know about Golden Syrup, but my sister's Costco in Colorado (I didn't see it here in Virginia) is selling "Pancake Syrup" that is organic cane sugar syrup. It also says "Maple Crest Farms" on it but we can't find it on the internet.

What is the difference between Golden Syrup and Cane Sugar Syrup?

Now isn't it funny that the pancake syrup would be can sugar with a name like "Maple Crest Farms"? Funny.

Other people said their Trader Joe's and Whole Foods had a cane or golden syrup. From what I've read it's the same, just each brand has a different way of cooking, so the flavor might be different.

But for those trying to avoid corn syrup, this is one option to use.

Is King Syrup the same thing? It's sold next to the Karo and has either a red label or comes in a red tin.

Peace,
Nancy

There's a Wiki article on Golden Syrup.

King is part corn and cane, so not the same.

I grew up with a great blend from Giant. It was 15% maple and the rest cane sugar. They stopped stocking it several years ago. I wonder if they'll reconsider now that the "no corn syrup" wave is catching on.

I just found out if it's not maple syrup it has to be called Pancake syrup. And some of these maple places are making the cane sugar syrup to fill a niche since maple has gotten so expensive.

I just found Lyle's Golden Syrup! The containers are small little glass jars, so I wasn't looking for them when I spotted it. I'm not sure all the areas Harris Teeter is located, but mine in Northern Virginia had the syrup! It was in the baking section next to the corn syrup -- a logical place.
