Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter is interested in trying to make a simple (and I mean very simple ) purse for her 18 inch doll. I'm not having any luck finding something basic for us to follow. I have fabric, and I thought I could help her handstitch it.
Any suggestions for this severely craft-chasllenged mama?
Thanks!

I'd use fleece (it won't ravel) and cut a rectangle.. fold up a short end one third and sew it along the sides making a pocket.. and have the other third flop over as the flap.

then just attach a strap to it.

Noreen,

Jodie's idea is probably the easiest. I'd sew a ribbon loop to the center of the flap and a cool button to the purse and you've got a way to close it. You could even use the same ribbon for the strap and the loop.

Another way would be to sew up the side and bottom of a rectangle folded in half (short side to short side for the sides ) and then make a simple casing for the top by stitching a wide ribbon on the outside, leaving open on the side seams ... thread 2 thinner ribbons thru (one thru each half) and than you have a drawstring bag.

If you want to use fabric, just have her hand-stitch on the wrong side, whichever way you do, than you don't have to worry so much about fraying.

Thanks so much. I like the idea of the rectangle. Seems very doable! I would never have thought of that in a million years...
DD has this half circle idea in her head, but I think I'll try to bring her 'round to my way of thinking!

I had thought to use felt...we'll see how it comes out!
