Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Changing from my previous thread - maybe I need to make my own candles - where can I buy sheets of colored beeswax to make my own?

Or if making my own wax - do I buy colored wax or use food coloring?

There are several links to companies that sell beeswax sheets in this thread.

Most companies have a disclaimer about mailing shipments in the winter months since cold can make the sheets brittle.

You can check around locally and see if anything is available. They aren't generally sold in craft stores, but here I can get them at a local aviary where they sell all things honey and bee related.

Are you talking about making dipped or pillar candles if you did it on your own? The bulk chunks of wax are white or natural so yes, you do need to color your own. There is special dye made just for candles which holds up to the high heat. It's made just for wax/candles. That is what you would use.

Snagging this for a minute -- how hard is it to do dipped candles? We did rolled beeswax candles for our Advent wreath this year and they burned too fast and made a mess. I'd like to try dipped for next year ... any advice?

If it is the color you are after but want a long burning candle, couldn't you wrap a nice plain pillar candle with the colored sheets? I guess they'd be a different color on top, though...

You could also ask the parish rectory where they buy their candles. The parishes around here always have huge colored pillars for their advent wreaths.
