I need an inexpensive and easy way (pretty would be nice) on displaying Christmas cards we receive.
How do you display yours?

We just tape them to the back of the front door in the shape of a cross. I usually put those from family toward the foot of the cross, so the children can see them easily. We've done this for years, and dh likes to check the door when he gets home from work to see who's been added. It's also a handy way to pray for family and friends. During my prayer time, I work my way around the cross, asking God to bless each family.

We don't do this, but I saw a pretty way once in a Martha Stewart catalog where you take velvet ribbon and lay a narrow piece over a wide piece and cut two slits (two at the bottom and top of where the card would go) and weave it through sliding the card in between the two pieces. You have a line going through the middle of your card, but it is pretty and easy. You just hang them vertically on the wall.

cheap and easy:
make one or two very large (ours were almost floor to ceiling) candy cane shapes on long paper.........paint red strips to resemble the candy cane........adhere to wall, tape Christmas cards on the canes. We did this for a couple of years and the kids loved it and the house looked more festive. Whever we make one set, we just go ahead and make an extra and share it with someone else........our neighbor loved it!
found it in a magazine once..........Family Fun, maybe???

This isn't the first thread I didn't remember from last year, and as I'm preparing for N's first birthday party, I'm realizing why I don't remember it. I was a bit busy and preoccupied last Advent and Christmas. Mea culpa for not remembering the previous threads...

This is kind of like what I was describing as I finally found it on Martha Stewart's site. Lemme tell you, it was just awful having to browse through all the holiday ideas to find it Ribbon Card Display

Hmm......Mary, I always thought we had so many things in common
Since Family Fun was the ONLY magazine I EVER got....it was given to me as a free subscription...I was pretty sure I was right on
.....now, if only my library would let me check out more than 120 books at a time.....then Mary and I could be more alike!

Great ideas, everyone. I remember cutting out of a Pottery Barn (I believe) catalog a picture of a card display. I have a hazy memory, but it was so colorful but simple, with a ribbon strung horizontally, and some type of clothespin I think to attach the cards.
I WISH I could find that picture. Has anyone seen that kind of set up?

Our galley has a two level ceiling where the boat's coaming on deck is so last year I taped up our cards on that.
Jenn, did you see the Peace Canvas at Pottery Barn? I think that would be easy to replicate and would look awesome with a border of Christmas cards around it.

Interesting, Jennifer.
Stefoodie graciously sent me a link from PBK this candy cane garland.
I've searched my clippings and must have placed it in a "safe" place, but the garland was in the Pottery Barn catalog, I think just as a backdrop for furniture, not for sale.
But in rummaging in my clippings I found two ideas from Martha Stewart:
Card Garland
another card garland
The clothespins idea is good...I was thinking Modgepodge if time. Not going to happen this year, of course!

Well, we have a card wreath I bought eons ago (metal, with antique card repro's on metal, with little swirlies to attach the cards to). It is pretty. But it is full. So we're going to be taping the suckers in between the slats on the louvered closet doors (which are right behind the back door we use for all of our coming and going).

Oh! The garland idea is a nice one! Actually, I'm doing something like the horizontal one, with some antique cards I got on etsy. I'm going to be copying them onto some card stock, using some of those lscrapbooking scissors I bought for crafting with, and making small slits in the corners, so I can string them onto some ribbon...probably red satin, organza, or grosgrain...not sure which yet! I've considered putting a thing layer of a glittery glue substance over them, too, but I'm not sure...

Based on this idea from Bridget last year, here's what we do with our cards. I have a basket on our "faith shelf" where the children put the cards from the mailbox. We open the cards when the family is together. The cards and photos go back into the basket until we choose one card/picture set to display on our "faith board." Once dipslayed, we pray for the intentions of that family for the day. On the next day, if a photo is included, we move it to a corkboard in our hallway so that we can enjoy the photos throughout the next year. (The photos from last year are put into an album.) The cards stay in the prayer basket for now, but I might display them collectively if I get inspired:).
I'm really enjoying giving daily attention to the families who are such a blessing to me.
Love,
