Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our table will be full of

turkey
fresh cranberry sauce
apple sauce
stuffing (from a box )
green beans
taters of some sort, either sweet or mashed
key lime pie

If you cook when do you start? I may make the pie crust tonight and the filling tomorrow. Most everything else, I'll do on Thursday. The kiddos like to watch the parade and I might have them do a little Thanksgiving lapbook.

We're eating very early afternoon. My sister and bil work opposite shifts somedays and that's one of them.. so I am going to attempt to have dinner ready so that they can both eat with us.

Turkey (stuffed with citrus and onions for moisture)
dressing (stuffing not stuffed)
mashed potatoes
gravy
some sort of veggie
celery stuffed with cheese
pickles
olives
homemade cranberry-pear sauce (sis is making)
rolls

pumpkin pie
pecan pie
apple pie

You know the more years I do this the shorter that menu seems

This year we're attending a pot-luck Thanksgiving party -- yay!! I'm in charge of dessert ONLY, so I get to play:

Ginger Ice Cream
Ginger-Molasses Cookies
Caramel Nut Tart
Pumpkin Pie, which will be some sort of combo between this and this
Rum-Raisin Apple Pie
Roasted Pears, but prettified with Pomegranate Seeds

I'm washing the new tablecloths and napkins right now. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Bill's mom is taking us out to eat. I'm thinking it will be pretty interesting taking 7 kids to a sit down place after all of us have been in the car for 2 days. I was kind of hoping for Chinese food, but we'll see what in on the menu.

We are having Thanksgiving with just our immediate family this year. My children do not have big appetites and are not adventurous eaters at all, and dh isn't really very adventurous, either. I love to cook and try new recipes, but this isn't going to be the year to do that! So, we are having:

Roast turkey breast
Pan dressing
Mashed potatoes and gravy
small dish of sweet potatoes for me
corn
rolls
green salad
pumpkin pie
chocolate pie

Almost the exact menu we had last year. Many of the foods were new and turned out to be keepers.

Turkey
Ham
Leber Soup
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Green Salad
Rice Marinated Artichoke Salad
Parmesan-Butternut Squash Gratin
Green Beans with basil
Ultimate Creamed Corn
Cranberry Sauce
Candied Yams w/ Marshmallows
Crescent Rolls

Dessert
Eggnog Pots de Creme
Jell-O Cloud
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Dumplings

Drinks
various Juices
Apple cider
Cranberry-Apple Spritzer

**Edited to add: Last year, for the first time, almost everything was prepared Wednesday to have less to do on Thanksgiving. Even peeling and cutting the potatoes, then putting them in a large bowl of water. That meant the kitchen was clean when guests arrived early on Thanksgiving and I didn't feel overwhelmed or fall behind.

That was reeeally different for me.

Ours is not a traditional Thanksgiving...or perhaps it is. We meet family up in the northern woods of Louisiana and everyone brings something to the feast.

Everyone is already up there camping this week. We couldn't leave because of work and sports schedule and because of this treat with my girls tonight.

Anyway, we'll be driving up there for a few days and the menu is:

Turkey---the Delano's
Ham------Ellender's and Gibson's
Yam Dish-Charlotte
Cornbread Dressing---my sister-in-law
Green Bean Casserole---Cheryl
Giblet Gravy---Cheryl
Homemade Cranberry Sauce---my mom
Fruit Salad---my brother
Bread---my mom
Cantaloupe---me, myself and I
Dessert (Pecan & Pumpkin Pies)---me, myself and I

Eggnog Pots de Creme

1 1/2 cups eggnog
1/2 cup   half-and-half
3 egg yolks
2 tsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. rum extract
Ground nutmeg

1. In saucepan, heat eggnog and half-and-half over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot.
2. In medium bowl, beat egg yolks, cornstarch and rum extract with wire whisk. Stir a small amount of the hot eggnog mixture into egg mixture, then gradually stir egg mixture back into eggnog mixture in saucepan. Continue cooking over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture just begins to boil and thicken. Immediately remove from heat.
3. Pour into 4 (4.5-ounce) serving dishes. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Refrigerate at least 8 hours until well chilled and set.
This dessert can be made up to 24 hours ahead. Just cover each dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

I double the recipe & enjoy it hot. The flavors seem more intense. The rest of my family enjoy it either hot or chilled.

I've gotta' leave my mandatory, annual plug for the sweetpotato farmers. ;-) My dad and brother run a big sweetpotato business. Here's their website for several recipes, including our famous pie recipe. I've posted it for *years* but I thought I'd link it once again for any newbies.

I make it pretty much the same as my mom except I don't use as much ginger as is listed (neither does she!) and I add more nutmeg. You can make this allergy-friendly with soy milk instead of evaporated milk, use dairy-free margarine, etc. I've also made it with egg-replacer for my son before, too. I have also used honey a time or two instead of brown sugar.

Godwin Produce Co.

Enjoy!

Recipe please!

Kayleigh made her Chicken/Cornbread Dressing this morning to take to work. I thought I'd share it.

A warning...she really doesn't measure anything so, as I took notes, I made some haphazard guesses.

I am checking out all of your recipes as I scroll past!
On our menu:

Turkey
Wild rice dressing with Italian Sausage
Sweet Potatoes with Cranberries
Roasted Potatoes
Asparagus
Fresh Baked Butter Roll Bread
Pumpkin Pie

My ds loves the pie, my dd the cheesecake, so he gets his choice this year! And I just made fresh pumpkin! You cannot buy cans of pumpkin (at least, not in this part of Wales).

A 12-pound fresh Butterball turkey that was 99 cents a pound at Costco, stuffing mix that just needs butter and water added, homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce homemade from cranberries and sugar, homemade pumpkin pie (with canned pumpkin, not fresh, but a homemade crust,) oh and frozen broccoli. Very simple, to feed five adults and two small children.

And my husband is presumptively the one making all this stuff! He's been the main cook in the past although I used to help more. His apple and pumpkin pies last year were so delicious, but you really needed to eat small servings.

The two last things we might get are apple juice for cider, and carrots.
