I am making an A line skirt and want to line it fully. The skirt has no waistband, so I'm wondering:
1.should I attach the lining under the facing at the waist
or
2. make a full skirt out (including the waistband facing) of the lining and attach that to the regular skirt somehow
or
3. skip the facing and apply the interfacing to the lining fabric and sew the lining to the skirt at the waist?
Any thoughts?

I'm so lazy.. I would just use it with a well-made slip. I have a skirt got from Elegance that I have to wear with a cotton slip that I got from there, as well.

I would only duplicate the outer skirt parts.. and sew it together as if the lining and the outer fabric were one piece.

This would be your best option for the least bulk and also slip (lining) would hang properly this way. I love a lined skirt. The fewer "things" around my waist, the better!

I love a well lined skirt too, especially when the seams are hidden. It makes me feel elegant and happy every time I put it on.
I plan to wear tights under it which is why I would like the lining to go all the way up to the waist. Could I attach the lining to the facing at the bottom edge of the facing and then attach that to the skirt? Would it make a funny line when I wear the skirt?
I'm making this pattern twice--this is the everyday version--so I have an opportunity to improve on the beta version. 
JoAnna, my mom said the same thing, but she like petty pants better.

Rachel,
Make the lining the same as the skirt body. When you are attaching the facing, the lining will be sewn in that same seam (at the top). I think if you attach it at the bottom edge, you will get some twisting because the facing will be curved and that is a bias edge. The skirt and the lining should be wrong sides together, that way you will have no seams against your body, and will have a smoother line. At the top, the facing will be between your body and the lining when the skirt is worn. I hope this makes sense--it's harder to type than to do! HTH

Liz, thanks, I can very clearly see what you are saying , and I hadn't thought abut the twisting at the bottom hem so I'm glad you mentioned it. I guess I should give up trying to keep the facing between the lining and the skirt. Ah, well, we can't have it all, can we?

RAchel, I just thought of this: if you sew with the 2 skirts right sides together, and the facing in between (facing and outside skirt right sides together), theoretically, you could flip the lining up and over, to the inside, then topstich the edge to keep it down. I would definately pin it first ot make sure I had it all in the right order--kind of like when you make a quilt "sandwich". In that case you would have the quilt and backing right sides together, and the batting on top of the wrong side of one of them. When you turn it all right side out, the batting ends up inside. Maybe that would work for the facing. Now I am intrigued.....may have to try this myself!

Are you saying stitch 3 layers with the right side of skirt to right side of lining and wrong side of the lining to right side of the facing? Then flip and you have right side of skirt out and the facing in the middle and the right side of the lining towards my body. That's what I was hoping for.
Topstitching: Around all 3 layers or could I just do it from the lining to the facing so othat I don't have the stitching showing on the outside of the skirt?
Maybe I'm going to be top stitching the facing to the skirt anyway. I haven't read that far yet. I keep getting interrupted so the skirt with the zipper is done, the lining and the facing are cut. tonight is sew the lining and maybe the facing. If I didn't have kids this would have been done in 2 hours. It's a really simple pattern.

I just looked at a lined skirt make the lining to match the skirt put the skirt and the lining wrong side together seams matching pressed flat then attach the facing/waistband like you normally would the lining is just the "wrong" side of the material. Hope this helps. Annie

I think it will work. I'm sorry my brain isn't on track tonight, though, to be certain. Pin first, and "flip" it to be sure it's oriented correctly. Please let us know how it works out!

All right, the skirt is done except for the hem and hook and eye!
I ended up lining it the way Liz suggested, so the lining does come all the way up to my waist and the facing is between the lining and the skirt. I understitched the facing and the lining to the seam so they both lay nice and flat inside. I put the skirt on and it feels wonderful and fits perfectly! Having the lining up to my waist allows the skirt to glide over the parts of me that are less than toned and make me feel like I don't have those funny lumps there. 
Because it is made from a cream pinwale courderoy, the fabric is thin enough to show the facing through the front of the skirt  , however I wear shirts that come past where the facing shows, so it's all good. And I don't anticipate the facing showing through the black version of this skirt.
