Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I knit. I like to knit. I find it calming. But..

I don't like manmade fibers--or as little of them as possible. They make my skin crawl. And if I'm going to be running yarn through/over my fingers to knit (and I'm planning on learning crochet this winter), well, it can't my skin crawl, lol!

So, what are your favorite soft, natural, washable yarn brands? I know Nissa has some good ones listed on the Simple Gifts file page (Hi, fellow "gifters"! ). But do you all know of others? I used some really nice organic cotton last year, as well as some Bernat Bamboo. VERY nice to the touch, and had a lovely sheen...Made for nice, dressy scarves for my mom and sister...but I'm looking for other options--esp ones available online (nothing good available locally)...

Alpaca & superfine merino are my favorites. (I love to spin.) Superwash merino may be what you want. Also, tencel and silk are soft and shiny like bamboo!

If you look on etsy you can search for yarn in any of these fibers. There are LOTS of beautiful things there!

Happy gifting and crafting!

KnitPicks has really wonderful, high-quality yarns at low prices. I think they are great!

I am currently knitting with a yarn that is 70% wool and 30% soy. It is very silky-soft! I found it at Michael's. It is Patons' SWS (soy wool stripes).

I also love soy or bamboo blends, and alpaca. But it you're looking for washable, then superwash merino is nice, too. Mission Falls makes a very soft washable wool.

Yeah, Etsy, Ebay, and Knitpicks--three of my faves...lol.    I've bought a good number of yarns on Knitpicks in the past. And have been drooling over some on etsy and ebay lately. Its just a matter of $$$ in hand, iykwim. SIGH.

Thanks for the recommendations, though! Does anyone have any other places--preferably online--where they've bought before and have had good success with?

Rachel
