Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you use to clean your carpet? I never seem to have the right thing to clean up the various carpet emergencies we have, everything from spills and mud to potty-training accidents.

For tough stains, I use Spot Shot. It is incredibly effective. I doubt it is very "green," but boy, does it work. For day to day spills and kid accidents, I use a little hand held steam cleaner that lives in a closet under the stairs.

Even with the right cleaners, there have been many times that I have said to myself that all houses with small children should have astro-turf for flooring and a drain in the middle of each floor. Just hose it off!

While not really for carpet emergencies, I was amazed to discover how well a mixture of 1/2 cup cornstarch and one cup of baking soda took care of odors. I just sprinkled it on the carpet at night and vacuumed it up in the morning. I think the web site I got the recipe off of said you could add some scent to it if you wanted.

We used something called Nature's Miracle to clean up puppy and potty training accidents I think we got it at the pet store.

I actually just had the opportunity to do a review of Spot Shot. I was really surprised at how well it worked, and plan to keep a bottle in the house.

It is non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe to use around children and pets. (not ON children and pets, of course, but there aren't lingering chemicals to worry about.)
