I LOVE the chocolate chip bars from King Arthur's Cookie Companion. I wrote out the recipe here
They go together fast, and are VERY yummy. I love the fact that they are made with melted butter so I don't have to think ahead to soften butter.

Printing out your recipe, Melanie.
I usually just use the Toll House cookie recipe put in a 9 x 11 pan, and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Magic Cookie Bars with the Eagle (or Borden) condensed milk can (I substitute crushed cornflakes for the graham crakers, to give a little ocntrast to all the sweet)
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/magic-cookie-bars-from-eagle-br and/Detail.aspx
Also, pecan pie bars and lemon bars. I'll look for the recipes tomorrow.
Now I'm hungry!!

I have a nice bar cookie recipe- we call them slices here and you can pronounce it "sloice" if you want a really broad Australian accent!
It's a sour cream and apple slice.
Base
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup oatmeal (I use fine)
1 tspn vanilla
1/2 cup melted butter
Mix all together and press into a greased tin and bake for 20 mins on 160C (sorry, don't know F reading but 180C is about 350F)
Prepare the topping while it cooks
2 eggs lightly beaten and then mix together with
300g sour cream- this would be a container holding a bit more than a cup I think
(I used 1 cup of yoghurt and 3 eggs the other day and it was nearly as nice)
When the base comes from the oven increase the temp to 180C/350F
Grate 2 apples onto the base, spread evenly and then pour over topping
Sprinkle with Brown sugar, perhaps a 1/4 cup
Cook for20-30 minutes til it is set and is starting to colour.
Cool before slicing (or sloicing).
Very yummy and a bit different

Oh that sounds yummy Pam..
160C would be 320F (I use this site http://convert.french-property.co.uk/ to get conversions all the time when chatting with friends in Canada or Australia or wherever)

Yep, it is instant oatmeal.
The original recipe calls for coconut instead but we can't eat that so I subbed oatmeal.
We have much drier coconut here- it's tiny flakes of very dry coconut called dessicated coconut. I know I couldn't find any like that in the States when I was visiting. Yours was much more moist, bigger flakes and lots sweeter. I don't think that would work.
I edited the recipe to say "til it is set" rather than starting to set.

You can find dessicated coconut in health food stores--ours has it available in the bulk section.
