Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have been the blessed beneficiaries of some books that were in a neighbor's barn for years. They were in a cardboard box, and while they are in fine shape they smell musty and dusty. Is there a way to clean these up?

I found some really good advice on cleaning and preserving books from Reading the Saints by Janet P. McKenzie.

She says make sure the book is completely dry before doing anything, by putting it in direct sunlight, or in a closed area like ice chest or plastic storage container with a box of baking soda or kitty litter or charcoal to absorb the odor. Make sure the books aren't touching the other materials.

If there is any evidence of bugs, she recommends a freezer treatment, and also mentions there are microwave treatments, like Microwaving Books.
