Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I soaked some irish oats overnight to have for breakfast this morning, and I followed the directions on the package. When I went to stir them before I reheated them I saw that there was green stuff on the top. Has anyone had this happen? Do you think it's mold?
Now I have to come up with something else for breakfast, and we were looking forward to some irish oatmeal

I can't imagine that it would mold overnight. I soak steel cut oats overnight all the time and I've never seen mold. Was it maybe just the skin that develops when cooking or the foamy goop from soaking?

I thought that too at first, but why would it be green? I decided not to take a chance. Do steel cut oats go bad? They aren't super old but we have had them for awhile. Do they need to be refrigerated? I kept the opened box in the pantry.

I make Irish oats all the time for my kids. I've never had a green skin on the top. There will be a skin, that's normal. Is it possible that your oats came into contact with something copper? Wet copper quickly turns green. It could be a copper lid, or spoon??

I hope it won't discourage you from trying again - they're wonderful!

Blessings,

Maybe it's green because they are *Irish* oats?

(Okay; I'll just lurk on back to where I came from...)

Peace,
Nancy

Nancy, you are actually the second person who has said that
I really like them too and we will eat them again, but next time I buy them we will keep them in the fridge after the box is opened, plus we'll eat them faster too
