Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dd and I have fallen in love with Ina Garten and her show. I think I enjoy it so much because she is always showing how much she enjoys cooking for someone, and I love that message. It is an act of service.

Ok...sometimes I really struggle to offer that act of service cheerfully...and true confession...I'm soooo not Ina Garten in the kitchen, I'm more Atilla the Hun meets Daffy Duck - a clumsy, well-intentioned, sincere, divide and conquer, leaving burning swaths of earth behind me kind of cook.      Anyhoo...I like the idea of trying to become more of Ina in the kitchen. And, I do enjoy cooking when I'm not stressed about everything else going on around me...and between my feet...and the crisis taking place in the living room...

Do you have any of her cookbooks? Care to recommend one lest I just dump all of them in my Amazon cart?

   You are too funny Jennifer.

I only have one and we love it, we use it often. Barefoot Contessa at Home.

I have all of them but her last one. I think The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook and Barefoot Contessa Family Style are her best (although Barefoot Contessa Parties is my favorite because it was the first one I bought). You might want to try your library. Ours has all of them. Then you could see which ones you like best and start there.

I don't own one but I checked out of the library Barefoot Contessa at Home and Barefoot Contessa Family Style. They were both great. I love the recipes we have tried. I am hoping to find some of her books at Half Price Books.

Our library has them, too. I use the library's cookbooks a lot - if I find myself renewing a particular book because I like it, I save up and buy the book.

My dd loves Ina Garten, too! (And Alton Brown, and Bobby Flay, and Kat Cora, and...did I mention she wants to be a chef?)

Jen - we have got to stop this same wavelength stuff!!!

Just this morning I put all the Barefoot Contessa books in the library on hold - I am in dire need of some cooking inspiration - all my wonderfully organized winter and spring menus are a thing of the pass - I am in survival mode and we are not eating as well..Just seem to be in a bit of a haze - like the 90 degree humid weather we have - I need to start the planning again

Adding - we do not have cable - so I have never seen her show - I will have to go back to the library site and see if I can get any of the shows on DVD.

I have all her cookbooks, I can't say which is my favorite.

They frequently have them at Costco.

Definitely her Family Style-it is my most spattered! Good food, everyone likes, I can make it.

YAY! I have an awful library, so I decided to order her "Home" and "Family" cookbooks. Can't wait to head to Costco now, too!

So exciting!

Don't be intimidated by Ina just because she lives in a huge house in the Hamptons and seems a bit snobby. Most of her recipes are not very fussy. My favorite cookbook is the Family Style one. Some of our favorite recipes are:

*Real Meatballs and Spaghetti--the sauce is awesome!
*Pancakes--the sour cream and lemon zest are so yummy in it!!
*I can't remember the nam,e but it's the Broccoli and Pasta dish with lemon sauce and pine nuts. It goes great with the chicken strips!
*Chicken Stew with Biscuits--sometime I replace the pearl onions with chopped ones because my kids hate to bite into them!

Enjoy!

One side dish of hers that I really like (and enjoy serving with a roasted lemon rosemary chicken) is her Tomato-Feta Salad. Its even better day two, and would make a great nutritious filler for a pita pocket with some of the chicken stripped off the bone in there too...MMMmmmmMMM.

I would just check out her show synopsis on Foodtv.com and see if there are any you might want to try.

I have the Barefoot Contessa at Home and the Barefoot Contessa Family Style out of the library - well I have had them out of the library for a few days but my dd had them in her room - she loves the books. But now I have them and I am drooling over them - great recipes and practical too.

On an idea from her book - I am going to start a thread on your 10 favorite kitchen tools.

Oh how fun!

I have to limit it to 10 though?
