Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

we got our rebate this morning
about an hour later the washing machine broke completely down. the set is 15 yrs old, so we expected it. still stinks though.

anyways.

recommendations on a budget? large capasity a must!

I think the most annoying thing about this is that the newer stuff isn't made worth a toot! Used to be an appliance was a major purchase but lasted at least 15 to 20 years if not longer. Now they are even more expensive and you're lucky to get more than 6 yrs out of it.

We had to buy a new washer and dryer three years ago, after ours lasted only five years. They were cheap models though. The washer had been dying for quite some time but they both broke down within a month of each other, believe it or not. We bought the pricey Kenmore Oasis washer and dryer, but I am so glad that I did. It's an HE washer with "canyon" capacity, lol. I can get tons of clothes in it, and I can even wash my blankets and things that normally I'd have to take to a laundromat. And yes, it cleans well.

I didn't want one of those side loading machines- the doors are almost exclusively made of plastic, and I just knew they'd crack after a short while. The Oasis is a top loader, all steel with a tempered glass top, but it washes like a side loader- it is quite gentle on your clothes. It is a little less economical to run than a side loader, but more economical than your standard top loader. Plus, we get more wear out of our clothes, so I think it pays for itself. The top locks while it runs- I love that feature, so that the kids can watch it work without me worrying they will fall in. It's so quiet too.

We bought the matching dryer, but you really don't need to. You can get a similar dryer for half the cost. That would be my budget advice to you, if having a matching set isn't important. With the amount of laundry we do in this house with nine people, I thought that getting this washer made more budget sense in the long run. I think for a little less there is a model that is exactly the same without the glass top. I like the see-through top though, so I can peek in during the wash.
