Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How many 11 X 11 squares can I cut from 1/2 yard and 1 yard of fabric if the width is 44 inches? I did the math (late last night) and I came up with 4 squares for 1/2 yard and 12 for 1 yard. This baffles me because you would think it would be 6 for 1/2 yard. Am I wrong? I just reread my question and it reads like a very dry, daunting SAT question. I hope it makes sense to somebody else.

If the fabric is 44 inches wide.. you can get 4 11" squares.

But a half yard long is only 18" so you can only get one row of squares.

in 36 inches - one yard you can get 3 11's.. so have 12 squares..

the problem is in one yard you can get 3 squares long.. so a half yard doesn't do half the number of squares but rather half the length for the squares which is only 1.5 squares long.

So I guess I was right on those numbers. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my SAT question. :)
