Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Have any of you tackled regrouting bathroom tile? Can it be done by a beginner? Can you do in sections?

I think we have a slow leak from our bathroom, and some of the grout is gone. I know it needs to be done, but I know I couldn't do it all in one day.

ETA: I have basic small white ceramic tile all over in the bathroom with basic white grout.

Steve just did some of ours - it was a very difficult and messy task. The day after I went into Bed Bath and they had some "easy to grout - as seen on TV" thing - we will try this next time.

By the way - we have a whole bucket of grout if you want some - and you happen to be in the neighborhood

Jenn,
We just tiled one of our bathroom floors and did it over several days. It was suprisingly easy. So..."yes" to the beginner question, and "yes" to the sections questions, too .

Jenn, they had to redo some of the grout in both bathrooms in our rental. They actually removed the tile from the wall (some of it was actually falling off), cleaned the tile, reglued it, and then the next day, they put on new grout. It was only sections, but the job takes time and it is a bit messy.

If your tile is still on the wall, then all you need to do is remove any of the old, loose grout. After that you can use your fingers to rub in the new grout. Don't worry about getting it on the tile because you can wipe off the grout with a wet sponge the next day.

It is probably best to do all the grout at once because it is not good for some of the grout to dry and then add new grout next to it. Be sure to use waterproof grout (since it is a bathroom) and also silicon sealer in the corners and by the tub (this was the problems that we had here ... no sealer).

My 15 year old ds supplied this information. He is pretty handy around the house (like my dh). Good luck.

Back again. I am starting to tackle this job, but it's going to take forever! The grout removal is difficult, because the tile is almost on top of each other, so the basic tools don't fit -- they are too wide. So I guess I'll have to go to the drill.

Ds is having fun assisting. We only do it when baby is napping, but he's right there with the shop vac to assist.

Also, once you have done the job and the grout is dry, don't forget to brush on a grout sealer, especially if the grout is white. It will keep it white a bit longer. I think you are supposed to apply it once a year.
