I have made a petticoat to go under one of my dd's dresses, but since she doesn't wear it evenly on her hips the ruffle at the bottom of the petticoat is unevenly showing. So....I thought if the petticoats are attached to a shirt amd made into a full slip it would solve this problem. Any suggestions on how to do this. It is a gathered elastic waistbanded skirt. Nothing fancy.

I make little dresses by gathering a skirt onto a t-shirt.. I think I just used a zig zag to attach the two together. that means you don't have to deal with any sort of solid waist or top.. they still pull on and off.

So does the t-shirt then become like an elastic for the cotton skirt made from non stretchy material? I was thinking I would still have to attach elastic some how. This sounds so much simpler.

After you zig zag do you cut all the excess fabric off?

yes Valerie.. the shirt becomes the "elastic" it'll hang looser around the waist. And yes you can cut off the excess fabric. you usually need to take 4-6 inches off the top to get the waist up where it belongs.
