Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I want to make scented candles for candlemas. I have a whole lot of soy wax but the scent that I ordered last year is really yucky and artificial smelling. I'm pretty scent-sensitive. Can someone tell me how to scent the candles with natural scents. How much? What kind? Where do I get it?

Here's a thread about Candlemas and here's an explanation of Candlemas (or the "purification of the Lord") from Catholic Culture's site. That should get you started

Heidi,
Candlemas is when the Church celebrates The Presentation of the Lord. It's celebrated February 2nd. There's a wonderful collection of essays and ideas here.

Do you want to use essential oils?
I used EO in soap making, but I don't think I did in candles. I was always worried about the flash points -- but I am sure there is a way to do it!

I did purchase candle fragrances from both   WholeSale Supplies Plus and from Wellington Frangrance. Wellington does have essential oils too, them may have more info on their site about using them in candles too?

Sorry I can't be of more help....

Elizabeth,
Soy wax is really tricky to scent and it's even harder to scent with essential oils. Most essential oils burn off with a fuelly kind of smell. There are sooooo many different types of soy wax out there. You need to have one that is made specifically for essential oils. And unfortunately there isn't a set of straight forward rules to follow. It's testing after testing and starting over again.
I'd try to find a good candle supply place near you and go from there. The craft store stuff isn't exactly top quality. I can't think of any that I know of off of the top of my head that would be near you.
Sorry I'm not too much help either.
