What do you do?

I have always done the Creative Memories type scrapbooking. I am thinking of going digital when I finally fill the last CM books that I have. They seem like they would create less clutter and maybe even be less expensive in the long run, no more buying stickers I don't need.

If you do digital is there a special program that you use? or can you just use Shutterfly or some other internet photo site?

I just knew you would go digital, MC...based on your remarks when I was visiting you.

Shawna just finished her last traditional album....she is going to use the CM program......maybe she can chime in when she gets going...

Me? I am staying traditonal, for a good while yet....as most of my 20 plus years of photos are NOT digital!   But, hey, at leat they are organized!

And, this Thursday & Friday, I have two whole days to scrapbook with my 4REAL life CCM friend here in Nevada!!! YES!

Chari...that surprises me....I just started thinking about this recently......I don't think I can use the CM program, it is not Mac compatable, hopefully that will change. I really thought I would never go digital, I do love real cutting, pasting and embellishing. I just think digital would be neater .

Now if I could scrap with 4real friends on a regular basis, that would be a lot of fun.......do you actually get work done?

I'm staying with traditional for awhile. I finally have a 'system' and i just can't think about anything new right now. Plus, I can't do the digital thing while watching a movie with dh, which is when I do most of it. I hesitate to add anything to "computer time."

MC, it was your comment about going to use just CM's palletes to get each book done quickly......I knew digital could not be very far behind that

Most the time I get a few less pages done with friends than when I am by myself....but, I definitely get more done WITH my friends, than not doing any at all....that appt ShawnaB and I have twice a month really keeps us doing it, at least.....now, to get back on our schedule in 2008! We started back in December.

One thing for sure, spending time with two of my closest friends.....it very good for providing an excellent dose of mother culture!

Suzanne.....I hope you and your husband get to watch a lot of movies

MY main problem.....my house is too small to leave anything out for very long. I read of one woman who got up 30 minutes early, just to have 30 min a day to scrapbook.....I might be willing to do that...if I could just leave out where we did not trip over it!

You are right Mary Chris, CM is not Mac compatible

I was all set to give the digital realm a try when I encountered that. But like you alluded to as well...there are still these CM books which are so neglected in their shrinkwrap!

My goal this Year is to get as caught up as possible the traditional way in the sense there won't be any digital prints scrapbooked (I'm so FAR behind...years before we ever got/thought of a digital camera). But I'm going to break my old mold of trying to decorate and theme-ize (a word??) each page to the hilt. My goal is to get the pictures down, a bit of journaling and a bit of color...then move on! It's the only way I can get it done!!!!

Kacky, I share your goal.

And you may just become my go to gal on all things Mac. My iphoto does have an option to make books, I need to compare prices with shutterfly and others.

Amyable Amy is the first person who I ever heard mention digital scrapbooking and it intrigues me, but I don't think it will happen here. For the past 2 days the kids have been pulling out their CM baby books and asking us to read their life history in 2 year chunks. We lay the books flat on the floor and everyone crowds around to point out pictures and laugh at the stories. Anthony asked that I be sure to keep his life history for him in books that match. Cecilia swears that the 7x7 that I sent Bill in Afghanistan is hers even though the pictures where she appears are all of her in utero. Does that kind of thing happen with a digital scrapbook? I would like to hear about the viewing part.

That said, I have a way to keep up with my digital pics and stories for now. I have a private blog--because I understand blogging--which family has invitations to. It's not pretty like a scrapbook, but it has the pictures and stories that I want in their babybooks when I catch up. I had sort of slacked in the picture taking department since they were just sitting on my harddrive, but now I'm a shutterbug again and planning to put a new camera on layaway soon.

In Hawaii I used to have all the neighbors over once a week from 7:30 pm until.....once Bill went to work before we were done. Gossip was a problem sometimes, but mostly it was friendship building and we got tons done. Maybe we could do a local crop group?

This month I'm visiting a friend and we're going to do a weekend crop, just the 2 of us. We did it once before and even with mass and going out to eat and shop, we each did 15 pages (as many as the people who sat at the table all weekend). I think the secret was only working one book at a time and keeping pages very simple, like only using CM palette and very few stickers.

I love the idea of a digital scrapbook! I think it is perfect for a gift or a trip that you want done right now. I think CM's is really great, but I am not digital yet either. So it doesnt' really work for me. I'll bet if enough people complain, they will make it Mac compatible, Mary Chris! I do send my film to Snapfish (Maryan, www.snapfish.com and you will need to sign up) and they will develop it, put the photos online so I can view them digitally and send me the print-outs. I was able to do a lovely calendar for my in-laws this year, even though i am not digital. They do have photo books, but I haven't used them for that yet.

I really enjoy scrapbooking, but can't figure how to make it part of my home or my routine yet. I also have a hard time bringing it places. I hope to get back into it someday.

Maryan, this is a consultant's site (one of your former students) and you can browse a little to see the digital story books here.

That's cool... am I right in thinking you can create a digital storybook and have it printed?

It sounds pricey (I have to admit I couldn't find the prices)... but I'm NEVER going to make a scrapbook. It just takes too much time with too many little hands around right now. But I could do something online!! I'll have to look into this some more.

Maryan, yes you are right that you can create a scrapbook and then have it printed. They come back looking kind of like a highschool yearbook, with glossy, full color pages and a customized binding. They are spendy, but still likely less than creating the traditional CM variety, when you figure all the paper, stickers, cutting and pasting tools, page protectors, and of course actually printing the photos.

I haven't tried the CM program...its sitting here on my desk looking at me! However, I have used Shutterfly to make a book. They turn out great. The downside is that you have to remain connected to the internet while you create your book. The upside is that there is not CM software to buy! The Shutterfly book go together quickly with a fast connection. It might be a good way to give digital scrapbooking a try! I am looking forward to coming to our scrapbooking gatherings with only my laptop in hand!!

BTW, that Mother Culture time alone is enough to pick up scrapbooking! Chari and I have solved so many of the world's problems together over pretty paper and stickers!

I'm staying with Creative Memories scrapbooks for now. I do plan to make my blog into a book because it's really like a another scrapbook to me. That's one of my goals for this summer.

Not that I have done much lately -- the only time I've used my scrapbooking software in the past few months was to make new banner photos for my blog -- but I am a total digital convert.

I love how I can make the pages look how I want with just a few clicks. I made too many mistakes with paper scrapbooking and hated to see all my messiness all the time (I'm the same kind of person that throws out old diaries and deletes blogs because I feel they are "silly" so take this for what it's worth LOL). I send my pages to online photo shops where I can pick up in a store (like Walmart or CVS) and each page costs under $2 for an 8x10. I simply slip those into 8.5 x11 albums with page protectors like I would with paper scrapbooking. The effect is very similar (but better because my paper skills were lacking).

It probably is comperable price wise because of the cost of embellishments that I would use.

I think my software is called scrapbook factory deluxe. It's OK but I think there are better ones out there (and more $$$)

I meant to add that digital is definitely not a "group thing" -- if part of why you love scrapbooking is scrapping together with friends, then paper is the way to go! I just couldn't get away to scrap when my friends were interested...

This is great info!! I don't scrapbook at all - I can't remember to print my pictures! So digital might be the way to go -- thanks for the other suggestions!

First time blogging and I was getting a little frustrated with a couple of elements that I chose for my site. So of course I'm too complicated to just pay some one to do this for me. I've gone on a long quest to figure out how to create my own elements for the page. (not perfect but did take care of the things that were bothering me )

Along the way I discovered a few free digital scrapbooking sites like Shabby Princess and Scrap Girls.

I would love to scrapbook but every time I try my boys just destroy my elements. This might be fun (I'm sure addictive too.) Anyone end up getting into this, can you make/create a bound photo album like the ones you see on say Shutterfly or Costco? Just curious
