Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you take your window screens off the windows in the winter? Or leave them?

Removing them:
~gives a better view
~prevents condensation in those "pockets" between the screen and the window, which in our climate results in mold/mildew

Leaving them on the windows:
~is less work
~ensures that they don't get bent/damaged,etc. as I'm not sure we have a "safe" storage space for them

We're in the Pacific Northwest, so we don't get snow....but lots of rain, dreariness and a lots of moisture in the air.

Any thoughts?

If I had a "safe" storage spot, I would -- but we don't have a garage or shed... yet. And the basement is too close to adventurous bikes, hands, etc.

We used to not bother. Then our window frames began to rot... and we were told it was leaving in the screens that did it! Yes, the mold/mildew is a problem here in swampland too... it just ate the frames up
So now we don't even have them up in summer ... which means I can never open the windows either

off - it forces me to take them in for repair (some are under warranty.) in addition, it inspires me to wash the windows fall/spring. it's clearly more work and something i only do during 'toddler' years (as opposed to new baby or pregnancy years.)

warranty....I hadn't thought about that! I should inquire about if ours are warrantied, then I wouldn't be so concerned about treating them like China (maybe).

Thanks, Rachel for mentioning your finding. Sometimes I think I imagine/make-up things about what the moisture, mold, and mildew does. I think I dream about it.

I remove ours and then give the windows a good scrubbing. I really enjoy the improved view from not having screens in. I store ours in the garage up on a shelf and they stay fairly well protected, but they are old and ugly anyway, so it isn't like I have to treat them all that carefully.

Not much choice here. They have to come out so the storm windows can go in. Old house. The screens are in such bad shape though, we haven't gotten new ones and I HAVE to use the air in the summer :(
