Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies I am attempting this knitting idea slowly
now my first question what size needles do I buy ?
I've the two boys 11 & 6 and myself .
we are all absolute beginners remember .
oh yes what about wooden ones or plastic. I love wooden things but is there an advantage to using plastic ?
Thanks so much , I think scarves will be our best attempt seeing as the snow has come
Much Love , Roxie

OK, first wooden are the best as plastic break (especially when used as swords! ) and the wood holds the stitches on while allowing them to slide a little. Make sure your wooden needles are polished occasionally (mineral oil or baby oil occasionally rubbed on cleaned needles works great) and they'll feel wonderful in your hands.

A good size needle to start with is anywhere between an 8 and a 10, maybe a 10-1/2. Anything smaller or larger is just too frustrating.

You can make your own needles -- get wooden dowels (3/4" dowells make #10 needles) and cut them into about 11-12" lengths. Sharpen them with a crank pencil sharpener -- not to a sharp point but to a dull point. Sand them till the wood is completely smooth all over .... any little rough area will catch yarn ! Once the needles are sanded nicely, glue a button (or bead or make a cap with oven bake clay or use an acorn cap or whatever you'd like) to the non-sharp end -- this will keep the stitches from sliding off. Once the glue is dry, oil your needles -- making sure to rub the oil in completely as you don't want oil on your yarn. And you're all set. My kids loved making these last year!
