Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

wheat berries ground for bread would make approximately how many loaves of bread???    Just curious because I am considering giving it a try.I know it is better for you but I wonder about the cost. Also what type hard/soft red/white is best for bread? Thanks Annie

hard for bread.. white has a higher gluten content but the main difference for white or red is the flavor.. if you like the flavor of whole wheat bread.. you probably would like the red.. the white has a milder flavor.. we prefer a 50/50 mix.. we get the nutty flavor of the red but the extra gluten of the white for makign a nicer bread.

50lbs of wheat makes 50lbs of flour

1 pound of whole wheat flour makes 3 1/3 cups.

My bread recipe uses 6-8 cups for two loaves of bread.. so I would get somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 loaves for 50lbs.

Thank you for the help. If I started out using red (we do like the wheat flavor) can I mix it with regular store bought unbleached white? I have 25 lbs of stone ground wheat to use 1st but I finally found a recipe that my dh says would make good sandwich bread too and I think I used a 50/50 mix. Thanks again Annie

sure you can mix it with other flours

I found that for my area I can get the wheat with shipping for about the cost of buying all purpose flour not on sale.. so it's very little mark up for us to go to 100% whole wheat. Everyone who'd had my bread (and it's been many.. we give it out at Christmas) say how very good it is.. the fresh ground whole wheat is MUCH lighter and softer than the store bought whole wheat flour
