If you receive "Faith and Family" magazine, they have an article about doing a Jesse Tree craft swap. The basic idea is that 28 families commit to making 28 copies of a single Jesse Tree ornament. The families then exchange ornaments and each family has a complete set. The ornaments are reusable for years to come.
I would really like to do this, but we have such a tiny parish that finding 28 families would be near impossible. I thought of you ladies right away. If you are interested in being in this craft exchange, please let me know.
The basics are:
1. Each person will make 28 copies of the same ornament.
2. The ornaments should be small, about 1-3 inches
3. Be creative - a small rubber bouncy-ball Earth with a hook in top is perfectly ok, and so is handmaking your whole ornament.
4. Do not start making your ornament until I make an announcement that we have filled the swap.
5. Completed ornaments need to be mailed to me by the end of November, along with return postage, so that I can mail them out before Advent. I will be leaving for vacation on November 30, so I will have to mail them NLT November 29.
I will give out additional information once I have 28 participants. But feel free to ask any questions you might have and I'll answer right away.

One more thing - if you want to make more than one Jesse Tree to give one as a gift, you can sign up to make 2 different ornaments. You will need to make 28 of each ornament that you are assigned.

Lorri -- this is a great idea! I'm up for it .... between my kids and I, surely we can make 28 ornaments!
Here are my preferred choices:
- star
- colorful coat
- lamb
. Let me know how you want to proceed. (And you're not talking to yourself --- it's just that many folks don't check in much on the weekend )

Id like to participate, but I have to keep it simple as I am still making paper origami cranes for my wedding on the day after Thanksgiving!
So, even though the coat of many colors is my favorite...I would like to sign up to make either:
1. cross
2. staff
3. whale
This could shape up to be a wonderful keepsake. Thank you for the idea!

We would love to do it but I have one question before I make my ornament preferences known. Are these 3D ornaments that are to be hung on a Christmas tree? The only Jesse Tree I have ever seen was a felt one with felt pieces. What did you have in mind?

This definitely sounds fun.
We've never really gotten our tree off the ground, so to speak
I've always been too lazy to do all of the ornaments at one time, and/or something happens halfway through and we get cut short.
So...
I (we!) would be up for making either...
1. angel
2. wheat
3. apple w/ serpent
Thanks for organizing!

Oh, I'd love this...I'm really committed to a Jesse tree this year!
I'd like
1-candle
2-scroll
3-tablet w/10 numbers
This sounds so neat!

A Christmas tree would be ok, or any bare tree or set of bare branches you might have or find. The picture in the magazine looks like a few bare branches stuck in a vase with a ribbon tied around them where they enter the vase. You could probably use a mini table top Christmas tree, too.
HTH...

Lorri this is so great, I told me dc about your idea, they are all excited. My oldest dd remarked, how we would be able to pray for each family on the given day we use their ornament. To think we could continue to pray for each other, every year just gives me goose bumps

Im also struck by the potentially powerful act we could all undertake, of praying for the intended recipient while we create the ornament. I used to do this when I made crowns and fairy wands for the children at the Waldorf School.
Im so excited to begin.

I finally got to see the picture. Count us in. Consider us a taker for one of the pieces that doesn't get claimed! We have no specific preference. Thanks for organizing this, Lorri!
