Did you see that Rebecca is back? Yippee!
She talks about this Tasha Tudor Shawl that she is knitting.
I found some other pictures with a front view, and these that are professionally done and sold with a variety of looks.
I know I can do this...but I can't do wool. All kinds of wool are itchy to me. The closest I can get to having wool is a coat, but a shawl, I need another kind of lovely natural fiber. I'm crazy for cotton...but is it just plain sacrilegious to do a shawl in something other than wool, angora, or other animal fibers? Anyone have success?

Cotton is a wonderful shawl as is linen! I have Angora and Mohair (plenty) can you wear these???

Have you tried LB's Wool-ease -- it's wool and acrylic that knits up nicely into shawls. Also, LB's Cotton-ease or Coats&Clark's Cotton Plus are great options as they drape so well ... TLC's Heathers is also quite nice and is all acrylic.
And, no, it's not sacrilege -- use what works and enjoy the comfiness of having knit it yourself. The really nice thing about shawls is you can easily throw them over your shoulders while you're nursing that little bundle that's just about here .....

No, unfortunately. Basically, I can't tolerate any animal fibers.

Yummy.
Thanks, Mary, for the suggestions. I have a good shop that I can get some great yarns, but I was just curious about how radical is making one with a cotton or other natural fiber that isn't from animals!

Jenn, just make sure that the cotton is mixed with something else and drapes well ... cotton (linen and other plant fiber yarns) can be quite stiffy or be too heavy. If possible see if you can swatch (or if the yarn shop has a knitted swatch) so you can feel the "hand" of the fabric ...

I second the LB cotton-ease! My 12yod has Asperger's, so wool is like sandpaper to her- I"ve had to experiment with many other combinations. I have used pure cotton in the past, but find it too stiff and heavy (and tends to "fluff" after repeated washings). There is also a beautiful combo of cotton/ bamboo that drapes beautifully (Panda is the name brand, I think??).

Thanks Jenn! I am glad to be back!  I think the shawl would knit up nicely in a heavier cotton yarn. I have also seen the cotton/bamboo that Lori mentioned which has a really soft and luxurious feel to it.
I think you will like the pattern. It can be dressed up or down. Do let us know what yarn you decide upon OK? :)

I did the lace-free version of this shawl in miniature for Sophie! It's a quick knit and oh-so-cute!
