it seems like i read some great crafts/ sewing ideas using old felted wool skirts and pants. maybe knitting or braiding strips of material into a rug? the last thing i need is more material laying around here, but when i saw it was wool, i couldnt resist. any suggestions?

I once scoured the resale shops for wool coats, etc. Then I cut, folded and braided them in to a nice rug. It never got finished, because I was in to "perfection" and had to let it go. It was fun while it lasted, though, and I always wished I would have kept it.
Another idea I saw recently was an Amy Butler pattern for an overnight bag that was made out of a wool tweed. Something I would not have thought of, but it was lovely, and very classic looking.

did you cut long strips and sew them end to end and then fold them? i have always loved those old fashioned braided rugs. does it matter what direction i cut them, since it is felted, there isnt a bias, is there?
help!!

I guess if it is already felted, then there is no bias (or not enough that it would matter). My wool was not felted when I cut it up, but I did sew the strips end to end with a bias seam, which reduced bulk at the seamline.

I'll cut adult sized items down for girl sized items.. much cheaper way to get some nice things for them. But I don't know much about felted items.

When I was pregnant with my first, in the days where I had time for this  , I used to felt old wool sweaters and make them into diaper covers. I also used an old wool sweater to make nice winter booties for my first when he was a wee one by felting the sweater and then cutting out a simple moccassin type pattern that wrapped right up his calf and using two velcro fastenings to keep them snug. They weren't extremely pretty (because of the velcro), but we were living pretty remotely and it was cold and they fit the bill.
