Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

i would love to do a summer craft camp for my kiddos and if we happened to make a few christmas gifts, that would be cake. unfortunately, i'm not very crafty. i need kits and directions. i've been looking at magic cabin and chinaberry for craft kits. are there any other companies that sell craft kits? or do you all have any other suggestions? i think we will try to:
make a quilt
knit a scarf
crochet a pot holder
embroider a pillow case
make a bird house
candle dipping
sew felt shapes (ornaments)
sequined ball ornaments
wax angels
make jam
pine needle weaving

has anyone done this before or do you all do crafts year round?

Mary, if you do a knitting kit -- scarf or hat -- and your kids have never knitted, DON'T buy a kit with novelty yarn as these just frustrate the fire out of kids; the yarn is hard to knit, rows are hard to count and if you have to rip it out alot (as most beginners need to) you just end up with a big mess and lots of tears....believe me!

This is a great idea though, and I'm off to the dentist -- while she's fixing an old filling I'll be thinking of your post....and my suggestions!

well, i bought all the supplies (mostly kits) from magic cabin and chinaberry for these items. i think i will arrange them by difficulty and get started, working on one a week through the summer. i like the routine of swim lessons in the morning, crafting in the afternoon and then baseball on some evenings. it seems slow and summery and yet purposeful. by the end of the summer, i hope we will have learned some crafts and finished our christmas gifts in a relaxing, fun way.

Your list sounds great!

Here's a couple more ideas....

stepping stones for the garden...

tie-dying matching t-shirts...I gave a tie-dye kit to a friend for a baby shower with white onesies and big t-shirts so her older kids could make the baby their clothes...dying a bunch of onesies and socks might make for cute gifts later in the year for friends who are expecting...

no-sew fleece blankets - alot of those are on sale right now and they come in kits - those are huge hits!

Have fun! Your craft camp sounds fun!

leather coin purse kits
weaving (potholder looms for youngers, simple strap looms for olders)
reverse painting on glass (plates, glasses, even cubes for paperweights)

we also take at least one week to work on rosaries using acrylic beads on cord.

One of the best projects we have done is decorating canvas tote bags....to keep our projects in!
