Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about the 10,000 Perler Beads my mother sent the girls.

They are having great fun with them-but they seem to multiply at night and invade all corners of the house.

Do your kids have Perler beads? How do you corral them (The beads, not the kids)?

Are they a CM "Handcraft" or just a plastic mess-making toy?

The good news is that seem to vacuum up easily.

I don't know if they are CM or not but my kids love them. My ten year old has made 80 of them in the last two months for an upcoming kids craft show.

We store them in a tupperware container. When they do the work, it is on a jellyroll pan (cookie sheet with sides) so they don't overtake the house. Those little buggers roll everywhere.

My dds have gone through phases where these were favorites. We kept them corralled in a muffin tin, sorted into one color per cup. We also got a good, condescending scolding from an ER peditrician when one of our toddlers inserted a nice assortment into her nostril!

Peace,
Nancy

Ok, I may get tomatoes thrown at me for this one, but I can't stand them for several reasons:
1. The beads themselves are a pain to keep up with.
2. The end product is (IMHO) plastic clutter that I will end up having to throw away sooner or later anyway when the child who painstakingly made it isn't looking.
3. Ecologically, who needs more plastic than necessary anyway?

I agree with you, Theresa, but it's such great fine motor skill work for my son. I'll put up with just about anything to help him in the areas he's lacking.

We have a had a great time in the past using these. You can talk about the color wheel with contrasting and complementary colors. We used them for creating simple patterns. As far as what to do with them- you can glue a magnet on them and put them on the refrigerator. Depending on the size and shape, they can become coasters. Use the heart shape and have your girls give them as Valentines. My girls also pretended they were decorated cookies when they play "restaurant".

The beads definitely teach patience for both mom & child. We almost always use them at the kitchen table with some sort of sorting pan that has been mentioned.

God Bless,

LOL. We have them and my girls love them. Yes, we find them all over the place. I take comfort that they are so small that only the teeniest baby would choke on them if swallowed, and I have no remorse whatsoever about vacuuming or sweeping up the ones I find! I do confine their use to the craft room...the problem is they sometimes spill on the way to the laundry room (where my iron is). Still haven't worked out a way to fix that since I'm not willing to move my iron...
