Has anyone had one of these made, or made one themselves? I have 16 squares I cut out from t-shirts from college/sorority life, and I'd like to get them made into a quilt. However, in checking online, the cost to have someone make it runs well over $200 . I'm also not handy AT ALL with a sewing machine (many tears while my mom tried to teach me how to sew just a simple straight line! ). If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. TIA.

We are in the midst of a similar project.
To add to Cindy's questions:
How do you stabilize the tee shirt fabric so is won't sag away from the filler and backing?
Is there an iron on stabilizer sheet or would lightweight interfacing do?

Fusible interfacing is what these guys and just about everyone else seem to prefer. It looks like a fun project. Just wished I had saved those tshirts.

Maria -
Thanks for that website. It looks easy enough if I could just get around that darn sewing part of it !

Can you hand stitch? It'll take longer but you could applique them to a large piece of material actually if you used fleece then you could cut and tie the edges to the back to make a throw. Annie

and this would be a really COOL THING to send him off to college with. I remember mom suggesting that I make a quilt the summer before I left for school -- it was a patchwork of all the fabrics she or I had made into clothes for me (my communion dress, graduation from 8th grade, a shorts set that I was ALWAYS in, etc). That quilt helped me over homesickness thru undergrad and grad school!

Hey you non-"sew"er ladies - I didn't want to type sewer because that is NOT what I think of you - but the lady at the website I posted does make them for you...
what about finding a local seamstress?
What about employing Michele Q? Michele Q - I'm not really offering you here without your permission but merely extolling your wonderful abilities...
Just trying to brainstorm here, ladies....it's just a really cute idea and I love Mary G's idea of the quilt helping to squelch homesickness!

Maria -
I checked out the website you posted. The woman just received some large commission orders, and won't be able to deliver any new orders until January 2008!!!
