Has anyone else had them this early (without multiples)? I am a teeny bit concerned since I went into labor at 19 weeks with multiples. I think I started BH at 20 weeks with my last little guy.

I have had them starting as early as 12 weeks (but usually more like 15-18 weeks). If you are concerned though, especially with your history, it couldn't hurt to call your doc or midwife.

I usully notice them around 18 weeks or so, sometimes they are strong even. Drink PLENTY of water, hydration helps so so much with BH.

I started noticing them at 12-13 weeks with my last two, and both pregnancies were completely normal. If you're concerned, I would call your healthcare provider, just for reassurance--that's what they're there for!

Yes...I usually start with BH at 15 weeks. I agree that water helps, also rest if they are especially strong.

Mine usually start around 14-15 weeks or so, and are frequent from there on, and can be fairly strong (I've never delivered more than 10 days early, though). A few pregnancies ago my midwife mentioned that lots of BH can be a sign of too little calcium - I started taking calcium supplements that pregnancy, and did in fact have less BH than I'd had before.

I've only had one pregnancy, but my BH started around 16 weeks and didn't stop until I delivered at 39 weeks. I've never heard the calcium theory, I'll try that if God ever sees fit to bless me with another child. I always figured it had something to do with the fact that my son was really, really active in utero.

you have b/h contractions all through pregnancy.. what's different is when you notice them.. and they do seem to be more noticable after multiple pregnancies.

In addition to staying hydrated.. calcium is also very important.. it helps the smooth muscles (uterus) contract smoothly.. and stop any cramping.

This is so funny - I just came on to post exactly the same thing -"anyone have braxton hicks at 16 weeks" - and thought I would search archives first! Comforting to see that I had exactly the same thing happen last pregnancy!!

I would take the calcium advice and I also would consider NOT taking raspberry if you are taking it. Raspberry makes me contract early.

I have a cal-mag supplement - have not started taking it because it does not stay down I only start raspberry at 32 weeks usually. It is probably something to do with the fact I had 5 children at the dentist all morning, followed by bathroom cleaning all afternoon. Problem is I can't drink water for hydration - it just does not stay in.

Marilyn I have to use gatorade or the like (yuck I know but it works for me) to stay hydrated in early pregnancy. I get SO tired of drinking sweet stuff.. really.. my normal drink is plain water. BUT I talked to a pharmacist once about it and apparently the sugar helps the tummy which is why most of the rehydrating stuff has sugar. I think I've seen some lately that has artificial sweeteners.. but I can't speak to those.. those upset my stomach when I feel fine.. I can't imagine putting those on a touchy pregnancy tummy

One thing that has worked for me is adding a smidge of salt and lemon to plain water.. not enough to make it salty or to make lemonade.. but it buffers the water and makes it easy on my tummy.. think of the difference of plain water vs saline in your eyes.

As with many of the other replies, I get them pretty early also. I can't remember how early but it's before 20 weeks. I understand that you might be concerned because of your history. The more pregnancies the more likely BH come early. I would rest and drink water and see what happens.

I noticed them even before 12 weeks with both of my pregnancies so far. I've been having strong ones quite often for the last couple months (I'm 35 weeks now).

I always have had braxton hicks at around 15-16 weeks with all my pregnancies! WATER!!! and lots of WATER!

All of our children came close to the due date except for one...at 34 weeks and he was perfect!
