I'm recovering from bronchitis . I am not happy taking tons of cough remedies. Besides, they aren't working. All natural remedies/treatments/ideas are warmly welcomed!
(Yes, I am on antibiotics. That's a different topic.)
Thanks!

So far, for me the only thing that works at night is Tylenol Cold PM and during the day lots of fluids. I am swearing off cough drops - I about choked on them three different times trying to suck cough drops while coughing.
Otherwise - I am trying to take vitamin C and echinacia several times a day. Garlic capsules too. One of my books recommends mullein and wild cherry bark. I am glad you brought this up - maybe I'll try them too!
Hope you feel better and can still read to your kids in the meantime!

Thanks, Tracy...ha ha, you should have heard me today. I sounded like a dying frog. My daugher kept saying, "Mom, please (insert clearing throat sound here)!"

It is a minor humiliation to carry on like this with children around isn't it?! I have so much phlegm that I cough up my kids laugh and imitate the sound they perceive as "hicc-garlic". They love making fun of me
And sorry if this is too much info, but the other embarassing thing is how many times I have to change my undies from leaking (maybe due in part to being pregnant?)
A few days last week I even had the babysitter come over after school to read to the kids so we wouldn't get too far behind!

I don't know anything off the top of my head for coughs.. though what you want is stuff to thin out the mucus and make it easier to cough out.. so not stop the coughing.. just make it work better.
Lay still as you can while sleeping (getting to sleep).. all the gunk settles so when you're sitting up it's in the bottom.. when you lay down it shifts.. that usually triggers coughing a lot when you first go to bed.. but it should calm down if you don't keep shifting position.
Take acidophyllus to counter the negative effects of antibiotics.. start asap and keep using it for about 30 days after you stop the antibiotics. It will help prevent any problems from killing off the good bacteria along with the bad.
lemon and honey soothe the throat.. keep your fluids up (that helps with the thinning too)
There are natural expectorants and suppressants.. but my book has disappeared at the moment..
oh, breathing eucalyptus essential oil (like a few drops on a hanky and then hold it near your face.. I'll lay on my pillow next to me at night) helps with congestion.. it might help with the stuff in your chest too.

We made cough drops from slippery elm and Gypsy Cold Care Tea the other day. They were yucky, but they worked. I'd buy the tea and give that a try first, then go to the cough drops if necessary. Basically, you make a paste of slippery elem powder and the tea, roll it to a 1/4 inch thickness and cut it into tiny circles (use the top of a vanilla bottle). Let it dry 24 hours and then suck on them. They're yucky. They work.

I don't have much of a constant cough as I get hoarse really fast. It's really hard to read out loud!
