Help! I've had a migraine since late Saturday-ish. I baked bread from a wheat free mix and I was so excited. The only thing there that is new to me is sorghum flour. Is that a likely allergen? it was so nice to smell and eat bread again. But I am so sick. it's possible that some unknown wheat triggered this but I was wondering if anybody has info on sorghum.
Also, ideas for remedies? I tried coffee at Bridget's suggestion and it was some better but then it came back again. I'd rather not start a coffee habit here.

I know you're highly sensitive to wheat, and having a lot of stress lately makes you more susceptible. I would wonder at cross-contamination. What brand was the wheat free mix? There are a couple that can't guarantee the "safeness" of the flour.
And what did you use to bake the bread? Did you use items that you cooked wheat flour in them before?
Drink lots of water, with lemon or lime if you can't stomach the taste. You need to clean out your system if it allergy related. And make sure you keep up your protein intake, so you don't get a low blood sugar headache to exacerbate the situation.
Caffeine does help. I've also taken OTC cocktails of Tylenol and Advil (with doctor's permission, of course). And old fashioned aspirin and a bit of caffeine really work wonders -- I think that's what is in Excedrin.

Don't want to encourage the coffee habit, but I will say that my pregnancy migraines were kicked with a cup of coffee and a 3 or 4 regular Tylenol. According to my doctor, you can take a full day's amount of Tylenol at once without harming your liver if you don't exceed the recommended dose in 24 hours (I never did that much), and caffeine helps the Tylenol work. I'm praying you'll feel better soon....

It was Pamela's bread mix and nothing was contaminated, I don't think. Also, I can usually get away with one host a week (they're really small), so I don't think that a trace of wheat is what set this off. I've always thought the Eucharist thing was sort of miraculous. I dn't have celieac--I just have an allergy that gives me migraines and causes me to swell.
Ironically, I absolutely can't handle Excedrin. Took it once for cramps in high school and left a baseball game in an ambulance. Dispatching the errand boy to Caribou Coffee, I guess.

Excedrin Migraine is what I take when I'm desparate. It contains tylenol, aspirin and caffeine. Since you can't take it, though, I'd keep trying coffee without sugar. (Too much sugar can make it worse.)
Another thing that works wonders for me when I don't want to resort to medication or caffeine is a hot shower. I rub menthol or eucalyptus oil under my nose and slowly inhale that as the hot water hits my head and neck. It tends to help.

Much sympathy from a fellow migraine sufferer. Mine aren't allergy related, so I don't know if my advice is any use. I am prescribed Co-Dydramol. Checking on the pack, I see that it contains Dihydrododeine Tartrate and Paracetamol. (Just in case it's got a different name in the US.) It really, really works for me. Before that I had Cafergot which I think contains caffeine among other things, and also worked well. I don't know about these drugs and bf, though.
I've never tried this, but a friend swears by lemon balm tea for migraines. I guess it might also be available in capsule form.
Hope it goes soon.

800 mg of Motrin when I'm desperate. After 8 hours repeat if necessary.
Otherwise I also take Vitamin C and Vitamin B6 together which are stress reducers, yours is allergy so it may not help, I also as of late soaked a washcloth in warm water with lavendar oil and just breathed it in and dipped again. Doesn't always work, but it gives some relief.
Hate to suggest it, but what about a cleansing enema?
Hope you feel better soon.
