I am at 12 weeks and have had a first trimester plagued with headaches (which makes me even more nauseous) - has anyone else had these - and are they normal? I try to do without Tylenol (which does not work anyway for me). Does anyone have any remedies? I am off to try to try a lavender oil bath.

Thanks.

One thing that often helps my headaches is a very hot rag on my head over my eyes and a dark room - but it doesn't help you get active, just helps sleep at night.

Marilyn,

I had pregnancy migraines this time around. They were awful especially since they seem to occur when we were gone for the day. I was concerned too. I hadn't dealt with this in any other pregnancy. My dr. said that it is normal for some women. Usually by Week 17 or so, the migraines end.

I took Tylenol which didn't work either at getting rid of the migraine but it did ease the pain slightly. For me, keeping the shades down, resting on the couch and keeping the noise level to a minimum was helpful.

I had these this pregnancy. I am 19 weeks and still get headaches easily if I don't take it easy. I found that when I was getting them earlier in my pregnancy it was always a fatigue or hydration issue. Today I have been zooming around the house getting alot done and I have been battling a headache all day. I have just been sitting down for a few minutes every once in a while and that helps.

Hi Marilyn,

I don't know if this would apply to you, but I had a few intense headaches during the first trimester with a few of my pregnancies and I think I narrowed it down to eating a largish amout of nitrates (Submarina sandwich!). I remember throwing up at the time of the headache twice and while I am usually very nauseous those first few months, I don't actually throw up. If I avoided nitrates and processed food in general, I was O.K. I pray you get some relief.

Thanks for all the advice. I am using hot lavender face towels which help a bit. Erica - I do avoid anything with nitrites and nitrates. I just do not see a rhyme or reason to the headaches. Hydration could be an issue - I am not drinking as much water as I usually do (it makes me throw up!!!)I am going to try very cold icy water.

Early in my pregnancy I didn't like drinking water either. To help me, for a couple of weeks I would put a little squeeze of lime juice in my water. It wasn't much (I would use a quarter of a lime for a couple of 12 oz glasses of water) but it really helped me. You could give that a try.

I did what Beth suggests. I also craved soda water...I just wanted bubbles, so I would get the carbonated water and add lemon or lime juice, sometimes a splash of cranberry.

I get occasional migraines before my period, and really, there's not much to prevent it...it's the fluctuation of hormones. And right now, you have a lot of that going on!

Yes, water with lemon (for me) was great, and very cold. Let us know if you're feeling better soon, Marilyn.
