Apart from trying to get more sleep, I have not yet made any. In the last couple of years the ones we made that have made a huge difference to our health and wellbeing have been:

- eating organic and natural where possible
- eliminating all junk food
- no candy or soda
- cooking all meals and goodies - eliminating processed food
- getting rid of the microwave ( though I keep it in the basement bathroom for wax/candle stuff etc)
- taking good vitamins and supplements
- avoiding antibiotics unless absolutely necessary
- being outdoors as much as possible (hard for me in the winter!)
- only using natural bath and skin products
- using eco friendly (bleach and ammonia free) cleaners, dishwash liquid, detergents etc
- removing all artificial scents eg yankee candles, etc
- praying and laughing a lot!!!

We do all you've listed except I love my candles - don't tell me they are horrible for us too?? Goodness.

I am sooo glad we switched over to Seventh Generation products for cleaning. There was a time when I couldn't be in the kitchen when the dishwasher was running because of the smell. Now it isn't a problem.

Husband and I are going to get back into the "Bill Phillips" regimen of eating and exercising. It is a sensible program that "speaks" to my husband so I can get him more fit when the need arises. Basically, the need arises when niether of us are sleeping right because we are both so out of shape and not eating well. (Or eating TOO well as the case may be!)

My supplements seem to help sooo much so I'm going to be faithful to them. Also the exercise invigorates my whole day! I'm going to get the kids hopping too with my new P.E. class in the garage/driveway depending on the weather.

It is always such a relief when the big eating holidays are past. Seems like I'm looking forward to Lent in January!

Wow-- these look great! I need to adopt a bunch of these (I have in theory, but in practice . . . )
Right now, I'm still trying to unearth my house from the massive amount of clutter that's bogging me down.

Aside from that, one of my biggest goals is to calm down and not get so upset. I'm really looking forward to the trickle down effect to my little ones!

I know I can't take on too much or I just give up on all of it and eat a whole bag of Kissables in one day

This January I'm going to try to continue to use natural facial/body products when I can (I just discovered washing my face with honey - yummy! ) and cleaning with more natural products.

I *need* to lighten up on the sugar/simple carbs. Baby and I have been battling mild cases of thrush for months and it's time I beat it into submission. But what do I do when stress hits?? Hit the sugar. What makes me stressed? Diet changes!

Eliminate the simple carbs and sugar and take probiotics and caprylic acid. You'll both feel so much better without the yeast.

I'm thinking about the Bill Phillips regimen too. My dh isn't going to exercise without my influence, I'm afraid. I loved Curves before I got pregnant but now I'm not sure I can leave the house to go because this baby is pretty dependent still. That, coupled with the real need for dh to get moving, might just be sign to do this together.

We just got word today that Christian's basketball coach had a heart attack. He's my husband's age and seemed fit as a fiddle. I think it was a wake up call for all of us. He's recovering well, thank God, but if you could offer a prayer for him and his family I'd appreciate it.

On nutrition and supplements...
Something that would help me determine _which_ supplements or probiotics -- I'm still learning about all of these.

Like I just learned that caprylic acid is actually found in breast milk (wikipedia is neat). But that's all I know... I have so much to learn

On exercise...
Do you recommend Bill Phillips book? I need something to motivate DH and myself.

And I'm with Anne McD - I'm working on not getting "worked up" with the kids. Hidden Power of Kindness is top on my reading list right now... any others?

I really enjoy the books by Australian-born Catholic author Matthew Kelly's books. He motivates me to be a well rounded person - for me his book The Rhythm of Life is all about balance - mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. Perhaps I need to re-read that book soon, too.

My kids used to have a lot of breathing problems around Christmas - a few years ago I read about scented candles and real Christmas trees being a problem for kids with asthma. We cut out both and things have improved so much. When I miss my Yankee - I put a pan on the stovetop - with water, orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves etc and let it simmer away. Or I bake for that fresh baked smell!!!

I used to get a bit depressed reading the health books as it just seemed so impossible to make all the drastic changes,. But I learned that just adopting one or two things would be fine and has been beneficial. I will list some of my favorites below (but to reiterate - I pick a few good suggestions and make these changes). Some on my bookcase are:

- Presciption for Nutritional Health (Balch) - good reference book
- Smart Medicine for Healthier Kids (Zand) - good reference book
- Superimmunity for kids - Leo Galland - good advice on supplements and diet
- The Maker's Diet - Jordan Rubin
- Nourishing Traditions - Sally Fallon
- 8 weeks to Optimum Health - Andrew Weil
- Spontaneous Healing - Andrew Weil

I have never been a Gym person - used to run a lot - but have had back and neck problems so stopped last year. I did get a rebounder - and do 10 minutes a day (and even that I find hard to find) - and it has been so good for me. The kids use it too - great for waking someone up when Math is not going well!! 10 minutes on the rebounder is supposed to be equivalent to 30 minutes on the ground - and I think you get the aerobic and strength. Also stimulates the immune system.

I figure that the playing outside with the kids is exercise!! And running around after a 2 year old.

My dh probably won't either. What are you going to do? What is the Bill Phillips regimen? Dh's grandfather died of a massive heart attack in his 60's and his father had a heart attack and open heart surgery last year, in his early 60's. We have a very large yard, so he gets a few hours of physical work out there at least once a week (more when there's back-to-back blizzards to shovel! )but what about the rest of the week?

One of the problems is that my dh and I both have very low activity level hobbies and interests. Everyone around here loves art, reading, etc. My dh works with his hands almost non-stop when he's not sleeping. I have taken to running around here with laundry baskets, going up and down the stairs as often as possible, etc. but that's hard to drag your dh along with

I don't know much about Bill Phillips but last year my parents recommended an exercise program that they had been using for over a year. My mom is very fit and my dad has had back surgery and suffers from arthritis and other stuff - anyhow they went on and on about how this exercise program really made a difference in their daily lives.

This year I got the book and having worked in the rehabilitation field for many years I am VERY impressed with this physical therapist's holistic approach to exercising the "core" muscle groups.

The book is called The Core program: 15 minutes a day that can change your life. As soon as this morning sickness subsides I look forward to giving it a try!!

My healthy resolutions? Finally undertaking a serious detox of Mercury from my body using Cilantro extract and a product called CyChroMax from the US (it contains Chlorella) also the daily consumption of Terramin edible clay as well as regular clay baths. I was severely poisoned 20 years ago and had no concept of 'detoxing' until the birth of my oldest 12 years ago, but with 5 precious babies and long periods of breastfeeding my opportunity for an effective detox is fleeting!

It is a really tricky undertaking, as the Cilantro is so powerful in removing it from hard to move areas like the brain that if you are not detoxing effectively it will reabsorb and can do greater damage. But I do have a good regime that is working well so far.

I am asking Our Lady of Guadalupe for guidance and success here and I trust in that.

I am trying to finally get my baby weight off that normally would be gone by now except for my more major thyroid dip in the last 2 years but things seem to be balancing out a bit now and I have been walking every evening along the seafront with the children and getting just that little bit of exercise that my body is not used to.

I have gone back to my low Carb, no sugar diet that assists in the detox... making stocks again, that is making my general cooking for the family healthier (use them as a base for so many things.) Marilyn, I have based my cooking on Nourishing Traditions you have recommended.

I would like to start regrowing some helpful herbs - herb robert, aloe vera, particularly comfrey as we eat this in our diet regularly when we have it (we are drought stricken here at present and my husband keeps mowing over what I have, as I planted it in a bad area...need to replant in a proper garden not in the lawn!) I put comfrey in our quiches, and put it in a blender with unsweetened pineapple juice, it is not strong tasting and easily popped into things.

Marilyn, you mentioned organic foods - we have been very blessed where we live, a great organic supermarket and butcher not far from us that are stocked predominately from local organic hobby farms and the like that keeps prices resonable (often cheaper than our local chain store supermarket) In the last week our butcher has started selling biodynamic eggs (higher grade of organic) and the blurb says that they feed their chickens curdled milk from their Jersey cows and the flocks are guarded their Mareeba dogs - sounds homey and personal - wow! It also mentioned that they do not feed their chickens fish meal and I had no idea that other farmers do! Being 'mercury aware' I know that fish can be a contaminate for mercury and I wonder if farms that do use it, would there eggs test up with it present? I am just amazed at how so many things can be exposed to things we mightn't necessarily thought about.

I hope that this new year will bring better health due to these undertakings! I hope you all find great success too.

I like the Bill Phillips because it is practical for family life. His food recommendations are common sense recommendations and completely easy to combine with cooking for a family.

His exercies need very little equipment at home. Everything can be done at home and the method he recommends is also practical.

His book is a quick read and he has just enough resources to be helpful and not overwhelming.
