Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Friends,

A friend of mine hopes you will take a moment to answer these questions and say a prayer for her.

Thank you very much!

St. Gianna Molla, pray for us!
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Love, Alice

I wonder if anyone can pass on any advice or information about uterine prolapse?

I had a vaginal prolapse a while ago, but it appeared to resolve itself after some olympic kegels. Then a mild uterine prolapse was discovered. No symptoms, so I didn't really worry.

Now the uterine prolapse has suddenly got much worse. Without going into too many details, things are much lower down than they should be to the extent that I'm in a bit of discomfort.

I'm grossed out, horrified, and really worried. I can't get to see my doctor until the new year and meanwhile I am really fretting, especially because dh and I have been waking up to real openness to life and I had been beginning to hope for more babies. (My youngest is nearly 3 and no longer nursing, so there's no obvious hormonal reason for the prolapse.}

So -- are more children possible or advisable after this sort of prolapse? I've read about pessaries as a possible treatment -- aren't they really uncomfortable? Do they just leave the muscles to give up completely? I also read that hysterectomy was the final treatment which truly horrified me.

Any advice gratefully received. I am praying to St Gianna Molla as a good place to start.

Dear Alice,
I had a friend who had a similar experience. I posted about it here in August. Scroll down to the last link that Elizabeth provided for some good information. Hopefully, others will have more to share. Meanwhile, please tell your dear friend that she is in my daily prayers...

I don't have much time, but a friend of mine had 2 surgeries for uterine prolapse after her 6th (the first surgery was not done correctly). She went on to have a 7th child. The only hitch that she ran into was that she had to have a c-section. She is open to having more children, but time might not be on her side.

I will pray for your friend Alice, and for all woman who are open to life and facing concerns.

It is good to read that kegels helped her intially at least. I have moderate cystocele since baby #8. It does concern me that it could get worse though. Uterine prolapse is a concern of mine too.

I don't have experience, but I was thumbing through my copy of "Presciption for Nutrional Healing" and they suggest making sure you eat well to keep your urinary tract from infection (such as adding cranberry extract to your diet), also eating lots of fiber and such to avoid constipation, which this can aggravate.

Prayers for your friend!

I wanted to make a comment before I forget. I have a 2nd degree uterine, rectal and bladder prolapse. I do wear a pessary. If it is the right size you shouldn't be able to even feel it and no I don't think it makes the muscles weak i think it helps them heal. Pregnancy is not a problem (everything pulls up tight then) and I even run (well not yet but I will be!).

One thing that has been very helpful I think is the herb astragulous. I did A LOT of searching back when I first found out I had this and although there isn't much on it I found astragulous was prescribed as a help for prolapse. I have taken a tincture in the past but now use the capsules (I buy Nature's Way brand). It may or it may not help you but I feel sure it has helped me and I've gotten comments from 2 doctors and a midwife so far on how well I seem to have healed in that area.

God bless,

Incredible blog for anyone suffering from prolapse, i.e. pelvic floor disorders.

Helpful & quick video for understanding proper pelvic alignment.
