Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 16 1/2 year old dd is having cycle problems. SHe has been cycling for 3 years but recently she has been having her periods close together; about every 2 1/2 weeks. She has always had extreme fatigue and moodiness right before her periods but lately it has been worse. I took her to the doctor last spring about the tiredness and they checked her thyroid and anemia and all was fine. I don't really want to go to the doctor about this because I am afraid they will recommend the pill to cure her problems. ANyone know anything to help lengthen her cycles again?

Do you have the book "Fertility Cycles and Nutrition" by Marilyn Shannon?

It also might be worthwhile to teach your daughter to chart her fertility signs to get a clearer picture of what is going on with her cycle...for example, if she knew how to chart her basal body temperature and cervical mucus, she would know whether or not she is ovulating before each of these periods or not. That could be valuable information to present to a doctor.

I'll try to post more later...

Dawn

I have struggled on and off with similar issues (though I did end up with anemia). Early this fall I started taking Menstrual Reg (Thanks Jenn Miller for the recommendation!!) and 25,000 IU Beta Carotene, and these two supplements have made a night and day (and pretty immediate) difference. When I quit regularly taking them, it shows right away.

Marilyn Shannon's book has many good recommendations too.

Has she said whether her periods are all more or less the same or whether they are alternately heavier and lighter?

If they alternate (heavy one time and then lighter the next) her cycles are probably normal length, but she is bleeding at ovulation as well as during menstruation. This can be annoying, but it is normal for some women and isn't anything to worry about.

As for the tiredness and moodiness, I agree with the other ladies who suggested Marilyn Shannon's book.
