i had a stupid accident this evening
long story short
my left palm has horrible blistering burns from the handle of a cast iron skillet that was in the oven less than 2 minutes prior to contact. 
currently the only thing that is easing the pain is wrapping it around my dh's ice cold beer bottle. 
we have soloar cain - but it was unbelieveably painfull! I can't believe they recommend that to ease pain. 
i have several huge blisters sticking together across my palm about the size of dimes. i need somthing to ease the pain and lubricate it so it doesn't stick to the gauze - which my dh is comming home iwth shortly i hope - and i can do all the many things moms need 2 hands to do.
what would you recommend? other than my dh's beer, which i don't think will work effectively through gauze unless i start drinking now 
on the bright side, i'm thankful to be right-handed

Oddly, I did a similar thing last week Monday Anyway, the only thing that helped me was keeping my hand in cold water. After talking to my Dad, he said to take it out of the cold water (I had it in cold water for 4 hours because it was the only relief). He said to take it out of the water, even though it was painful because my nerve endings had to get used to the warm air again. I had them used to the cold, which is why taking them out of the cold was so painful. Anyway, I did as he said and after some burning feeling for awhile, it finally subsided and was not painful any more (about an hour or so later?). Temperature changes to that part of my hand hurt for a few days, though, as did the blisters when they popped accidently when zipping up a 2 year old's coat.
By the way, I didn't use any cremes or anything on the burned area, not even gause, until the blisters popped. Then, I used Neosporin (sp?) with gause over it to keep out infection.
I'm no medical expert, of course, but that's what helped me. I hope this helps you too! I'll keep you in my prayers tonight.

I keep food grade Aloe vera in my refrigerator. My 13 dd burned the tip of her finger last week and walked around with her finger immersed in cold aloe. I also keep homeopathic Cantharsis on hand for burns...Hypericum works well, too,... as it is for nerve injuries (great for fingers)...she actually took the Hypericum that night. Another helpful topical solution is Calendula...I usually use that in place of Neosporin. Calendula helps with burn pain.

As Tammy mentioned, Aloe Vera works wonders. I burned myself on a stainless steel pan about a month ago. After initially running my hand under cold water, I applied Aloe Vera a few times a day. I barely even have a scar. I hope that your hand heals quickly.

I have Calendula on hand for burns, but just recently one of my little ones burned her finger on a hot iron and I lathered her finger in Arnica cream and no joke by the next day her finger had the scare but absolutely no pain -- amazing!!
We absolutely LOVE Arnica!!! 
We also use a lot of Destin cream here for burns.

My pediatrician told us to get plain, white toothpaste (not gel) - but we were dealing with a very minor burn. It definitely took the pain away almost instantly - but I wouldn't want to do it with anything serious as I'd be afraid of infection. My dd got hers touching an iron I told her was hot - just to see if it really was hot  but she didn't have any blisters.

Well not too bad at all today. Blisters are barely there today, just a small red patch where the skin came off. then a tender area in the soft pad where the thumb joins the palm.
prayer seems to have been enough.
well that and 2 cold beers.

I knew about breastmilk from a bizarre experience seeing it first hand. I don't think my dh is recovered still..it was a stranger we saw shooting the milk onto her screaming 2 year old's elbow after walking past a hot grill. It worked though..he was quiet after that!
I'm glad the beer worked although I would prefer a Mike's Hard Lemonade.

If one can over-come their sensibilities, it appears there really isn't much that breastmilk doesn't cure. I wonder if it was the actual breastmilk or the sight of mom spraying him that hushed the kid up?

Martha...
I second/third aloe vera... I grow one in my living room just for this. DH swears by vanilla... chamomile tea (cooled) would probably work in a pinch too.

Sorry - I just saw this. I had a horrible burn accident in August. It was second degree. In the beginning I used the prescription cream Silvadene - then moved to Vitamin E oil and aloe once the wound had closed up.
Hope you are recovering well.
