Can anyone recommend a good iron supplement? Not looking for huge doses, but more than in a prenatal/daily vit. Something gentle on the system.

alfalfa is very good and reasonably cheap.

A better one would be floradix but it's more expensive and the alfalfa works well if you're not in desperate need.

Both are plant based and so avoid the digestive upsets of the typical iron supplements.

My midwife suggested blackstrap molasses when I asked if there was any way to avoid the pill supplement. A tablespoon per day did it for me. I also heard that it's good to follow it with something that contains vitamin C to help the iron absorb better. I always chased my spoonful with a glass of oj.

I use Palafer-cf. I don't have any side effects from it, where most of the others cause cramping, consipation and didn't absorb well or at all. Palafer-cf has Folic acid and vitamin c, which helps with the absorption and it keeps the drs. happy with my iron levels. I get it from Costco, which was about $18 cheaper than the regular pharmacy. Go figure.

I highly recommend Floradix. I forgot how good this stuff was until I started using it again recently and giving it to my older daughter. It's non constipating and yeast and gluten free.

Bought a bottle. That stuff is GOOD. Almost too tasty. I look forward to my dose.      Thanks for the recommendation, Michelle.
