Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have known/heard about so many mothers being diagnosed with cancer while they were pregnant, waiting until after they deliver the baby for treatment, and then succumbing to the cancer later because they didn't start treatment quickly enough. And I am terrified that this might happen to me...

We are trying to conceive now. Before we started trying, I went to the ob/gyn, explained my fears, and told them that I wanted to make sure I'm "in the clear" before I get pregnant. They sort-of looked at me like I was crazy and did a manual breast exam, a PAP test, and an HPV test.

My question is, is this enough? It's possible I am overthinking this. What do you all think? Any advice?

I pray about this all the time, but they say God helps those who help themselves...

Breast cancer runs in my family so I got a mammogram done before we started trying to have kids again. I don't think that is crazy.

I'm not really OCD but have quite a bit of anxiety issues and can relate on that level. I do know what it's like to allow fear to run your life and for me, I had to come to a point where I could trust where God was leading me without the anxiety and fears overtaking. That doesn't mean I've got it all under control but by moving past my fears (because of issues w/ pregnancy #2 and my DS), I now have 2 more beautiful girls. Without trusting God and moving past my fears, I wouldn't have them in my life.

So, on a practical level, my only advice is that your body obviously changes when you're pregnant and can spur on certain types of cancers. You've obviously been down this road twice so chances that a pregnancy can bring on a cancer, for you, I would think, it probably slim. If you really wanted to rule out any kind of cancer or disease, you would probably have to do a complete body scan, every MRI and cat scan of every organ within your body and brain. I mean, the tests you've done only rule out anything in your "female" area. So, to me, there really is no way to be "in the clear".

And who are "they"?    I think this is misused as a Bible verse and I don't believe there's anything like that in the Bible per se.

Hope that helps as you discern God's will for you and your family.
