Hello Ladies,
I feel the urge to get active and strengthen my body. I have tried a couple of workout programs and doing things on my own, but it's not really helping. The self motivation to do it on my own and for as long as I should, is totally not there. The workout programs take too much time that I don't really have in my daily life.
First, does anyone have any suggestions for a simple, effective program that takes a max of 30 mins?
I saw a program advertised on TV that sounds good, but when I went to the site to find more details, they had testimonials and nothing truly about the program itself. It's called, "Mama Wants Her Body Back". Have any of you ever used it?
I really want my energy, stamina and strength back. I know it will help me with my patience, emotions and much more, especially while dealing with my very active kids.
Laura

I haven't heard of that program, so I am no help there. But, while reading the "40 Bags in 40 Days" thread in Our Lady's Loom and Larder forum, I followed links from that thread and somehow wound up here.
So, I got to thinking... that lady CLEANS her house, every week. She does things on a weekly basis that I do maybe 2-3 times a year (like vacuum under the sofa cushions ). And I here I thought my hose was fairly clean already.
If I adopted some of her ways- like sweeping the floor after every meal and mopping every week, not only would I have a much cleaner house on a regular basis, but I would also be getting a pretty good work out each day.
My dh travels often, and my kids are still youngish, so it is not possible for me to always get out to walk or run the way I'd like. But cleaning I can do every day. I can work physically harder in my own home.
I keep thinking of the Amish- those ladies don't go to the gym or exercise just for the sake of exercise. Yet, they cook and eat an abundance of food and at the same time are noted for their sparkling clean homes. There must be a connection there.
So today I asked myself a few honest questions... when is the last time I cleaned the inside of my dish washer. Umm... never? we're supposed to?
Could I mop more often? yes. Could I move the couches and vacuum underneath more often? Yes. For some reason, wrestling with the vacuum is always a workout for me.
So, I am going to try the "clean house' exercise program. I like the idea of not only getting a workout, but also having a cleaner house.

Melinda, that is kinda funny. I was snooping at some samples on www.CLP.org. In their Home Ec. I, Light unit 10. they talk about just that. You don't need a gym membership, or club or program, or fancy equipment. Clean the house, climbing the stairs, mowing the lawn, hoeing the garden, washing the car, are great forms of exercise. Add walking daily, and you get enough movement in your day.
I saw that a couple days ago. I have no idea why I was looking there, but it also got me thinking. I have zero spare time to add more to my day. I DO get some exercise weekly, as I do karate, and it is nearly free as I volunteer for the club. But beyond that, i can ill afford a gym membership, or exercise equipment. But I do need to spend more time on the house and the yard. It's respectable, but could use a lot of improvement. So, I am planning a more active home maker.

Hanging clothes on the line.. believe it or not but that really helped me lose weight once between pregnancies.
As far as programs go.. Wii fit is fun and t-tapp looks effective and short.

Well since I've only had time between pregnancies since 1996 and my last baby is only 4 months.. I don't have a lot of other experience with losing weight.

Haha, I started in 94, my baby is now 8. I would have more in a heartbeat, but it hasn't worked out that way. I'd love a larger family!

I really like the new FIRM workout videos - they are 20 minutes and use only handweights.

ME TOO!!! I had no trouble losing the baby weight in between pregnancies. Now that we are done (at least for awhile), I can't seem to get the weight off.

Ladies!!!!!
Thank you all so much for your input and stories! I am smiling from ear to ear, .
I do clean house, it seems non-stop, but I don't feel any benefits. Maybe it would help if I cleaned all three floors in one day instead one floor a day. Stairs are no problem! We only have 36 from first floor to third floor and then there are the 15 basement stairs too... Cleaning house is a constant.
I really want something to get my back and abdomen, especially the lower abdomen, a lot stronger.
Martina, I would love to borrow those DVDs. I checked out the link ClaireG posted and it looks good.
Thanks again ladies!
God Bless

Hi Christine!
I just started working out with my kids. I knew they weren't getting what they needed physically. We are more active than most families, but when they were rosy and sweaty after short spurts of activity, it showed me their endurance was low. When we did heel raises and the next day dd12 calves were tender, showed me they were lacking in strength. When I look at the mirror and the shape I am in.... it's round, and it is a shape , I knew we weren't getting enough!!!
So I started looking, and by chance I received an email about a homeschool PE curriculum. What are the chances? I signed up for a 2 day trial. DD8 LOVES it. We giggle through it all. DD12, well, not so enthusiastic, but she joins in when her sister and I are laughing, so she is coming around. As a result of the sample and actually doing the activities, we could feel slight achiness in our underused muscles. I knew it was a good thing. You don't need anything extra for the most part. I don't have indoor friendly balls, so that would be about it. Everything else we had. It's quick to do. We get an easy 30 minute work out, and if it's nice outside it's easy to add another 30 minutes. So we're much much closer to the required 60minutes a day of moderate to vigorous exercise. I know I'm feeling my muscles ache frequently, with no use of special equipment, no 1 hour driving time lost. We do it at home, so it takes no drive time. No monthly cost :)
You can read more about it here: Homeschool Family Fitness
I figure we'll start to see improvement in a few weeks within our respective sports. Better endurance, and strength.

Well, Mommy4ever, I was looking for something to help me. I didn't think about doing anything with the kids since my body needs are different than theirs. I will definitely be checking out the Homeschool Family Fitness site. It sounds good!
Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
Laura

I have some of Jillian Michaels' dvds and they are usually a 30 minute, jam-packed workout. Of course, I haven't used them yet for various reasons (pregnancy, torn knee, laziness), but they keep calling my name!
Melinda, love the *clean house workout* idea!

Laura! I didn't forget about giving you those DVD's Sunday, we've been dealing with the flu here but should be better by Sunday. The DVD's are in the van ready for Sunday, I can't wait to show you the ones I have, I think you'll really like them
Are you going to St John's for Wed.? I'm debating it but we need one last kid to feel better by tonight. If not, we'll just have to go to our local mass

Hi Martina!
I knew something must have happened with the kids. After all, you only have 9/almost 10 of them! Something is bound to happen every now and again!
My plan is to go to the 12:30@ SJC. Don't stress yourself out trying to get the DVD's to me. Take care of the family and yourself.
God Bless!

This really helped me gain upper body strength and did wonders for my back!
After you take the initial test (left side of screen), all that's required of you is 3x a week.
No need to buy the book, simply follow the link (week 1, week 2, and so on).
Take it slowly and I promise the results after 2 - 3 weeks will amaze you!
You can do it!
