I know this was mentioned in the severe acne.... what to do? thread.
But I wanted to pull it out more on it's own.
I just read a blog post at The Nourished Life on Homemade whipped coconut oil body butter.
Not only is it good for acne severe or not. But it's also good for dry skin and removing makeup as I found out at a second post on Coconut oil for clear skin.
I didn't realize that it has antibacterial/ani-viral/anti-fugal properties though which is one of the reasons it helps with acne.
Annd more than that.. I am in the midst of considering what would be a good face lotion for my 14 yr old daughter. This sounds so good that I might just try it myself too.
I told my dh that coconut oil is expensive for oil but not for face cream.

What a great idea! I was just discussing cocoa butter as a moisturizer with a friend yesterday. She's had hip replacement surgery and is looking for ideas for keeping her incision area moisturized and comfortable as it heals. Do you think this would work for that application?

I think it would. It was mentioned on one of the posted I linked to, maybe in the comments.

This is GREAT!!! So glad you linked to the whipped coconut cream info. I have used coconut oil as a face and body moisturizer and it works lgreat- even lightens age spots--however it is hard to use, exactly for the reason she mentioned. When it is not too hard, it has a greasy feel at first but is quickly absorbed. I definitely going to trying the whipping idea.
I've used it as a hair conditioner, too. Takes several washes to get all the oil out, but it makes your hair feel so soft!

I love to put a bit of coconut oil in a hot bath. It makes your skin sooooo soft, espcially in the winter when my skin get so dry.
I am a big Coconut Oil fan for beauty purposes.
I also love coconut oil or olive oil and salt for an exfoliant.

Yes! I was just telling my husband last week that I needed to start some kind of beauty regiment in my old age I can't remember where I read it, but someone said their grandother's secret was Vaseline every night, and I told dh that I figured coconut oil would probably work as well or better.

An irl friend has used coconut oil on her skin for a few years now, and truly if my skin looks like hers when I'm 44 I'll be wrapped.

I just happened to go to the store this evening so i got some coconut oil and handed it to my daughter. She's quick, she figured out right away that it was for a face cream.. and I explain how to whip the oil and she did that too. So when i took my shower this evening I got to use some whipped coconut oil for my face cream. It does feel nice.

Funny, I just finished reading an article on coconut oil and was contemplating using it for face cream too!
Benefits of coconut oil
Has anyone used it successfully for your teen with acne?

We use coconut oil straight out of the jar for hand and face cream. We will have to try it whipped. Thank you for sharing.
I also use it for diaper rashes when I have a baby and for cooking some vegetables. Our pastor likes it on popcorn.

Based on the coconut oil threads, I whipped up a batch of coconut oil, glycerine, vitamin E oil, aloe vera gel, and a small amount of tea tree oil. I've been applying this combination liberally to my face, neck, hands and arms for a couple weeks now (while I have been battling a tough upper respiratory illness that was wreaking havoc on my nose and face). One surprising benefit has been that numerous age spots have lightened considerably, rosacea-type red patches on my cheeks have lessened, and many wrinkles and dry skin areas are much improved! I keep a nice recycled jam of it on our bathroom counter ~ whenever I wash my hands or shower I dip it out by the fingerful and apply as needed. Thank you ladies for the wonderful tip to use coconut oil!
BTW, we enjoy popcorn with coconut oil here, too!
