I am currently experiencing a miscarriage I was 4 weeks (had only known 2 days) when I had some slight cramping and bleeding. That bleeding was very light and lasted less than a day with another day of light spotting. Several days passed before I had any more bleeding. I had less than half a day of heavy bleeding, otherwise it has been light or spotting. I have had no cramping. I have now had bleeding/spotting since Monday. Things are down to just spotting now.
This seems so contrary to everything I have read which is that an early miscarriage results in bleeding on the order of a very heavy period and lots of cramps. Is what I am experiencing within a range of normal? Thanks for any information.
Beth

oh Beth are you sure? It is possible to have bleeding.. even heavy bleeding and have the pregnancy survive.
I don't know what is normal for sure but I'm sure there's a wide variation of normal, just as there is with any pregnancy.
for you.

I'm praying for you, Beth.
Jodie has a very good question. Can you discuss what is happening with your doctor? Both of my miscarriages involved a lot of heavy bleeding, but I was much further along than you are. I did have some light bleeding and spotting that lasted about 3-4 days early on with my twins, but it turned out they were still fine.
If you are miscarrying, I am so sorry for your loss!

Thanks for the question. No, I am certain I am miscarrying I had my hcg checked 12/1, 12/3 and 12/5 with numbers 42, 23, 5. I also took an HPT 11/28 and it was positive and one on 12/5 and it was negative. Certainly after the first bleeding episode on 11/30 we were very hopeful even with the low hcg. Even after the drop in hcg from 42 to 23 we were still praying for a miracle since I was showing absolutely no signs of miscarrying (although I had been very fatigued and all of a sudden on 11/30 the fatigued disappeared).

The one miscarriage I had that early was pretty much like a normal period.. a tiny bit of mild cramping that wasn't usual but wasn't unusual for me and went maybe a day longer.. but it wasn't heavier than the heavier end of my normal.
I don't know if that helps. There is a good bit of variation.

Beth,
My early miscarriage played out a lot like yours although I had 2 or 3 days of what I would consider light bleeding, but more than spotting.
I'm so, so sorry for your loss, Beth. You are in my prayers!

I was cross posting with Jodie, but was going to mention this same thing:

My early miscarriage was very similar to a regular cycle for me. My cycles tend to be very light.

Thanks ladies. Sounds like I am within what could be considered normal. If only the emotional recovery was as easy as my physical one Thanks for the prayers. Even though we knew for such a short time it has been painful, very painful.
Beth

Oh Beth the emotions are so difficult. Do take care of yourself physically so that nothing there is making the emotional more difficult (I'd recommend vit B's and D at least). Earlier miscarriages are less likely to be a problem but post partum depression can be worse with a miscarriage so be on the watch for that as seperate from the all too real grief.
Some people I know find comfort in giving their child a name so that's something else you might consider.

Thanks Jodie and Angie. Yes, I tend to have baby blues after having a baby and this week I have felt some pretty strong emotions that remind me of that. My doc did some blood work and actually found that I am a little deficient in vit D so I am taking a bigger dose of that.
I kind of felt like I had a boy. Because of the time of year we named him Nicholas Andrew.

praying for you and Nicholas Andrew. a dear friend in NY is going through exact same thing at the same time; they have named their little soul Teresa. when I started typing this an image of Nicholas and Teresa, wrapped in Mama Mary's arms, brought tears to my eyes and yet joy to my heart.
praying for your loss.
