Does anyone use the amber teething necklaces? Do they really help? Do you worry that they will somehow choke or get strangled??

So out of curiosity I went looking to see what they were. Most all I saw said for the baby to have constant supervision with them on.. so yes, I'd say it's a choking/strangling hazard.
But I did see one review where the mom wrapped it around her son's ankle and then stuck him in footie jammies  pretty clever.

I am planning to try one with this baby - I have lots of friends who swear by them. The ones specifically for teething should be made to break if baby were to snag it on something, and the beads are individually knotted on so that if that happens, you won't have beads everywhere for baby to choke on.

I have used them with the last four kids. I really think they make a difference. I purchased them from a website called Inspired by Finn (I can link later if need be.) I take them off the kids at night, but otherwise they wear them continuously.

I do believe it works, however it needs to be real baltic amber. It contains succinic acid that acts as a natural analgesic, or pain reliever. Amber is porous so it needs to be kept clean of oils and residues. If the necklace is made properly it is not a choking hazard. The ones I got from inspiredbyfinn.com have every bead knotted individually so if it breaks only 1 bead will come off. The clasp is designed to break at 20 lbs of pressure to prevent strengulation. I feel that they are very safe. I forgot to put my LO necklace back on after his bath and he slept horribly! He was restless all night. I'll make sure not to make that mistake again! Even properly made.. it sounds like these are a potential choking hazard.. maybe not a high risk one.. but it only takes one bead to choke on it.. and with smaller children if there's no jerk.. even 20 lbs breaking point may be high enough to allow strangulation. Can it be safely used? very likely but more so if people do stay aware that there is some risk even with the built in precautions.

Well, I believe you need to do what you are comfortable with. I have used them for over 4 yrs now and do not worry about them at all. My little one sleeps with my husband and I so he is rarely alone. If a bead were to break off it could be safely ingested. The beads are small, pea size or smaller. My 4 yr old was playing with his, swinging it around and pulling on it. The clasp was closed and it did break easily. They work so well for us that I love them and cannot imagine life without them. But again, you need to do what you are comfortable with. They also do have bracelets so it does not have to be a necklace. The Inspired by Finn facebook page may answer more questions for you.
