Well, isn't this a lovely conversation topic for a Monday morning?
My ds had a plantar's Wort on the bottom of his foot several years ago. The pediatrician told us to try an over the counter remedy. We did, it worked, done. Or so I thought. But it keeps coming back and we have to use one of these remedies every 5-6 months.
Is there something that causes Plantar's Worts that we need to deal with? Or is there a more permanent remedy? I'm not sure what steps to take to deal with it. He's 17 if that matters.

Becky,

Warts are caused by viruses. My ds had the same problem at about the same age. At one time he had 8 of them!

The over the counter freezing stuff worked well. We made a point of keeping socks and sheets scrupulously clean during treatment. They did go away and finally stay away. Btw, our dr. shared that the body will naturally throw them off, eventually. Of course on the foot, it can be more difficult to wait.

We recently tried duct tape over a wart....my daughter would put Compound W on it then cover it with the tape overnight. It took about a week of this treatment to get rid of it...previously the treatment alone did not work.

since it's a virus, it can take a long time to get rid of. I agree with keeping things clean and dry. No wet sandals..socks, etc.

Good luck!

The wikipedia article on Plantar's Wart had some good information. My sister had this on her foot...and it took forever to remove (I mean over a year). She ended up having it surgically removed. The area was just huge, almost covering the ball of her foot, and it was so painful. She tried everything.

Our youngest had this and we used Compound W and also thought it was over, but it came back a few months later. This last time I googled remedies and we tried apple vinegar. Very simple. It turned black and dd (10 at the time) was able to pull it out. It looked different from the Compound W experience and it's been about a year and hasn't returned. I think this time we got the virus from the surrounding tissue.

Amarytbc, I like the idea of using something like vinegar. How did you do it? I'm just wondering how you keep the vinegar on the wort.

My mom would love this - she swears by apple cider vinegar remedies - specifically Braggs. I'm sure I've seen this in her book, but forgot it. We are in the middle of a treat ment for youngest ds as he has one on his foot. We did the otc feezing treatment. I think I'll add cider vinegar to the regimen.

I washed the foot and from a regular cotton ball I made a small ball that was just bit enough to cover the wart. The little ball was soaked in ac vinegar and squeezed just enough so it wouldn't drip. I put that on the wart at night and again in the morning and covered it with a band aid. From what I read online I was concerned that it would bother her, but it didn't at all. The skin over the wart might need to be filed a little bit so that the ac vinegar can penetrate better. I didn't have to do this because my daughter picked at it based on the recommendations of a friend We did a lot of hand washing after that. It turned black and was able to be pulled out within a week and wasn't painful at all.
