I've been making green smoothies in my new Vitamix. I noticed that if I add pineapple, it tastes better, goes down better, and settles better in my belly. Some mixtures really don't settle well, as if my belly is struggling with digesting, perhaps shocked by that good veggie nutrition all at once .
Are there other foods, high in digestive enzymes, that work well in smoothies? Any other suggestions?
Love,

Bananas that have been frozen. We'll take over-ripe bananas, slice them into a baggie and freeze them (some people freeze them on a cookie sheet, then bag them up, but this is too many steps for me! ). Something about the freezing process brings out certain enzymes - and bananas are great in almost any smoothie anyway!

Papaya is the other one known for helping with digestion.. I would think you could add it to a smoothie.
ginger? I don't know if it's high in enzymes but it's supposed to help soothe tummies.. just buy a fresh root, wash it off (don't peel), put it in a baggie in the freezer.. and when you want some just grate it frozen from the freezer (no need to peel)

I take probiotic capsules and open them, adding the powder to our smoothies. Just another thought.

Angie,
I follow a rule of thumb that works well here: 30% veggie/70% fruit. I too, have a difficult time with an all veggie drink. I want to enjoy and even look forward to my drink, so I use this method. This morning we had carrots, spinach, apple, banana and frozen mango with yogurt smoothie. YUMMY!!! I have noticed that using an apple and banana combo can take the edge off of the strong veggie tone. Taking a good probiotic may help, too.
Edited...I forgot to mention grapes...they help out, too.
Maybe we can have a Vitamix party when I come to visit!

You are right about the ratio. I'm feeling somewhat frustrated. I purchased the Vitamix with the main goal of increasing my veggie intake. But I'm increasing my fruit intake more than expected, to the point of limiting my "grab fruit and eat" enjoyment .
As for a Vitamix party, well ya! The main thing, besides smoothies, that I'm making include...
ice cream
margaritas
As you can see....this isn't going in the direction I had originally planned . Hope does spring eternal, though. I look forward to cooler/less humid weather so that my taste for soup returns .
Love,

Maybe this can help with the enzyme issues?
