I am pregnant with #6 (although this is my 10th pregnancy so I guess I should say #10!)
I am at about week 14 and I am soooo tired. I know tiredness is normal but this is almost ridiculous. It also could be because I'm older - 46. I take maternity vitamins that I buy over the counter at a local grocery store but I'm thinking I need something more. I feel like I need more iron (I was anemic with my last pregnancy) but I don't want to take iron without seeing my doctor first since I know taking too much can be dangerous.
Any recommendations for a natural supplement that I can take beyond my maternity vitamins?

You could take clorophyll as a natural iron booster.
Also, during pregnancy I always make and drink this pregnancy tea, from Aviva Jill Romm's pregnancy book:
This is my favorite beverage in pregnancy. It is a nutrient supplement (iron, calcium, and many vitamins and trace minerals), and is an overall partus preparator or birth preparation brew. The dried herbs can be mixed in a large batch to have on hand. The tea is delicious both hot and cold, and it can be enjoyed by your whole family. You can vary the quantites of the ingredients, or add and omit herbs from time to time. It is safe to drink this brew throughout pregnancy and during labor. It is beneficial for the postpartum as well, as it helps with milk production.
2 parts red raspberry leaf
2 parts nettle
1 part oatstraw
1/2 part alfalfa
1/2 part rose hips
1/4 part red clover
1/4 part spearmint leaf
Mix all of the dried herbs together and store in an airtight container away from heat and light. To prepare your infusion, place a heaping 1/4 cup of the mixture in a quart-sized jar. Add boiling water to fill the jar, cover, and let steep for a minimum of 30 minutes, a maximum of 2 hours. Strain, sweeten, and drink 1 to 4 cups daily.

I would recommend a much better quality of vitamin than you'll generally find at a grocery store.
Rainbow Light Complete Prenatals
NF Formulas Prenatal Forte
Vital Nutrients PreNatal Multi-Nutrients
You can do a search online for most of them.. vitacost.com is often an inexpensive place to buy from.
They'll cost a good bit more.. so expect it. But just get one bottle and try it. That's what I did.. 9 years ago.. the difference it made was enormous. It took about a week of taking them consistently but the difference is sooo worth it.

oh one note.. your RDA is the MINIMUM required to prevent deficiency diseases.. NOT the optimum for health. So getting more than the RDA does not mean you're overdosing by a long shot.

Thanks Jodie and Lindsey. I'm going to order some new vitamins. Lindsey, I'm also wondering where you purchase all the ingredients for the tea you mentioned? We do have a health food store in town but I'm not sure they will have everything you listed.

Another thought is, are you drinking LOTS of water/good fluids? My Dr. just recommended 120 oz or approx a gallon a day with the Summer heat and pregnancy. I know that not enough fluids can cause fatigue. I also was low iron last preg. One way I knew before visiting the Dr. was looking at the bed of my eyes, they were alomost white .Two things that really helped with my low iron without binding me were bran cereal(very high in iron) and black strap molasses. The bran cereal I actually ate with just water on it because the milk will prevent full absorption of the iron, I would put some water on it and let it sit and it would end up like oatmeal, which I could stomach. The nice thing is neither of these will hurt to have as opposed to taking iron supplement when not needed.
B-complex vitamins are very good for helping a person's energy and moods and many other things.

those herbs Lindsey recommended are also very high in iron
floradix is one of THE BEST iron supplements out there.. and it's plant based so again not one you overdose on.
alfalfa you can get in tablets and is a pretty cheap source and will work well for many people but if you need more than you go to the floradix.

I take Optivite, which is highly recommended by Marilyn Shannon in the book Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition.
In addition, I take Juice Plus, which has some amazing studies regarding pregnancy here.
I started taking it because I was so tired with my second child...my midwife and pediatrician are both huge supporters of this.
If you are interested, I am a distributor. You may PM is you like. (Shameless plug).

another vote for Floradix. it kept my bleeding down to a minimum with this last pregnancy and seemed to make my flow quit earlier!
ALSO A liquid calcium/magnesium supplement helped me too.

A little late here, but I started taking SuperMom vitamins right before I conceived. They gave me a boost of energy. I can't tell if they are working well now because although I am deathly fatigued I am also carrying twins for the first time. I do feel better on the days I take them, and keep them down!
I also drink Pregnancy Tea from Traditional Medicinals. You can order it from Amazon.
