Any suggestions for morning sickness? I did not experience morning sickness with my other two. I am at a loss on what to take or do to settle my stomach.

I am usually not a soda person - however are diet sodas okay to drink while pregnant? So far, diet ginger ale helps I just worry about the aspartame (spelling???).

I don't care for any "diet" drinks.. honestly though, I feel strongly about them because they upset my stomach at all times so that last thing I'd use in pregnancy is a diet drink.

for myself I found gatorade to work best.

ginger can help but a large amount of ginger could be bad for the pregnancy.. most gingerales don't have real ginger in them anyway.

you'd want to ask your care provider about the substitute sugars.. some feel more strongly than others.. from they're are horrid (my position) to they're better for you than sugar (I don't believe that at all). Most will probably fall about where caffiene consumption is.. reduce it, but keeping some in your diet is generally considered ok.

Protein is your best friend! Eat small amount of protein all day. Start with eggs or a good whole grain breakfast, yogurt for second breakfast, nuts for a snack, cheese sticks for a second snack, and so on.

Take Vitamin B6. Drink Pregnancy Tea. Stay as hydrated as possible. I wouldn't do diet soda, but if you can find something carbonated with Stevia that should be safe. I found a yummy carbonated drink the other day called Izzie (I think!). It is a carbonated fruit drink. No food coloring or high fructose corn syrup. It does have sugar though. I can imagine it being very calming to a queasy stomach.

Good luck. I have dealt with so terrible morning sickness and some just slightly nauseous pregnancies. It is hard to keep your head above water once you get sick, so try hard to keep ahead of it.

once ages ago when I talked to a pharmacist about an electrolyte drink that didn't have sugar in it.. he told me the reason so many did have sugar was that it actually calms the tummy.

There is a "diet soda" called Zevia. It is sweetened with Stevia. I find that too much sugar makes my morning sickness worse so you could try this. They have several flavors.

Jodie, do you know how much constitutes a large amount of ginger? I have some ginger root tablets that are 550 mg of ginger each....they seem to help. I am wondering if just two a day will be okay, I read somewhere earlier that 1 gram of ginger seems to be okay a day?

You know I've never really figured it out. Ginger hasn't helped me much so I never pursued it.. I just don't use it when I'm pregnant for fighting a cold or infection..

What is a *pregnancy tea*?

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies. I will have to look into the "Izzie" drinks?!?!?

pregnancy tea is an herbal tea.. usually based on red raspberry leaf.. but has other things added some for the actions of the herbs, some for the taste.

red raspberry leaf by itself is easy to purchase in bulk and often cheaper than the special pregnancy teas.

I use herbalcom.com for buying bulk herbs. a pound of red raspberry leaf is a rather largish quantity

Crystallized ginger helped me this time around, also, though it is controversial, kombucha also made me feel very good early on.

you can also add bubbly mineral water to your own fruit juices . grape is really nice . yes candied ginger is nice just to nibble on too .
I think the amount of giner in ginerale is very small but would buy the natural type or one with sugar not sugar substitute . I would stear away from all diet items be it pop or foods as many have additives as well .
what really really helped me was the soda cracker thing . just nibble on not a heavy cracker like stoned wheat but a very light saltine cracker . Usually 2-3 crackers would ease the sickness .

Thanks ladies soooo much for all your suggestions!

I visited Trader Joe's and picked up some All-Natural Dixie Peach Juice and Natural Spring water .... I mixed the two and it was absolutely delicious and calming to my belly.

Thanks again!

I am now 33.5 wks PG and feeling nausea again. I thought I would revisit this thread for suggestions.

Do you think I could use something like this for the red raspberry tea????? I need the tea already in tea bags.

yep that'll work as well as the loose leaf.. though there are lots of options for using the loose leaf.. steeping it loose and then pouring through a fine strainer or coffee filter.. or tieing up the leaves in a coffee filter.. or a bit of muslin or cheesecloth (these would be reuseable).
