Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with impetigo without using antibiotics?

My youngest son is dealing with impetigo for the 4th time this year. He always gets it at the tail end of a cold- usually the skin around his nose has broken open becaus eof the nose wiping and he ends up with impetigo on much of his nose and upper lip.

I've been trying to use neosporin as soon as the skin starts to look a little raw, even before it breaks open, but it hasn't helped to prevent it. Plus, he's only 2 so getting him to stop touching his nose is a difficult thing to do. We did have some success with putting a bandaid over it the other day as far as keeping his hands away from the area.

Does anyone have any ideas, either preventative or for once his skin is infected?

Is there some type of medicated soap you could use... maybe something with chlorhexiderm or another antiseptic in it?

Skin issues like that are always tricky... poor guy!

Dr. Sears
has some good info and ideas at his website. I always check there first when I have a tricky problem.

A doctor friend kept coconut oil in his surgery and handed it out because it was so good for his own children.
