You would never know I was a nurse by all the questions I ask here!
Dd10 has something going on under her eye. It is red and swollen beneath the lashes. Sometimes it is scaly, sometimes just red. Both eyes seem very puffy under the lower lashes.
I am thinking something fungal? She has been taking probiotics and it will seem to be resolving then flare up again.
Any ideas? Topical solutions? I know I should know this, but the brain is a bit foggy these days.
Thanks!

Not knowing for sure what it is.. tea tree oil is a possibility.. it's anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.. but you do NOT want to get it in the eye and I can't tell how close you'd be..

I guess this sounds too easy but I'll throw it out there. My first guess is allergies. My son's eyes get red and puffy and swollen esp. then he starts itching them and it's mainly only under his eyes...not the whole eye. And he has eczema too so his skin tends to be more scaly in the winter time when we run the heat. Just a thought...

Yep Kathryn I thought that too. My eyes are always "lined with red" as I call it and very scaly. I haven't been able to wear makeup in years (not that that is necessarily a bad thing ).
My dh had a bout of this one time. For him what worked was rinsing his eyes in the shower. Obviously use warm water, and then stand so the water hits your eyes. I always cover my nose like a tent with my hands so I can stand there a long time. My dh also used Neutrogena soap, the plain basic no fragrance bar to put a very small amount on his fingers, then put it on his lashes (with eyes closed) then he'd do the rinse. It did the trick for him. For me it helps when they get bad.

Could it be that she is allergic to something in her shampoo or soap?
This is easy to test...she just has to be very, very careful not to get anything at all in her eyes when she showers/bathes, and to wash around her eyes with clear water only.
I have something like this (my eyes puff up just like you describe, and it itches), and a nurse friend clued me in. (I am also allergic to Oil of Olay...so the ingredient must be in there, too.) Give it a try for a few days and see what happens.

I don't know if this will help or not but it sounds like something similar to what my husband's grandmother used to experience. Her eye doctor told her to wash the area really well with baby shampoo every day. She swore by it.
