Ok....I need to do this better and now...ok, so I have a lot riding on this...
We have been slowly adapting more of a Nourishing Traditions diet and it has been wonderful....our budget is very very slim. What nutritional packed foods would you consider for pregnancy as important? How about nutritional snacks?
I think I may finally be able to get Raw Milk...
(where is that snoopy-dancing icon??!)
And I will make my own yoghurt from that in the crock pot(my irl friend just explained the whole easy-peasy thing to me)
I do bone broths(just chicken right now but...)
oh and I am starting to make my own Kombucha again!
I have a problem with grains while pregnant...I just swell and feel awful. I know that because I will be hitting the bit 4-0 in the middle of this pregnancy I will need to be extra careful of my diet.
I don't wantthis to happen again...I am sure you understand why...but God's Will be done!
Oh how about this little gem:
Cod liver oil 1T/day for pregnancy:
""Another thing that my midwife swears by is that cod liver oil makes your amniotic sac tough as nails""
My ds was born with the sac completely INTACT...now that is TOUGH! The midwife loved it...TMI??
Advice...suggestions...especially snack ideas to quell the nausea??

Do you like chicken liver pate? It's pretty cheap and very high in iron, which might be helpful for you. I love it, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Mint tea, btw, might settle your stomach in the afternoon, but in the morning what has worked for me is a snack BEFORE I get out of bed or even sit up that will raise my blood sugar a little...maybe an apple with a little PB on it or a few grapes with a cube of cheese. I often just use crackers, but if grain is a problem for you then that won't work too well! Fetching this snack is a job for super-husband !
Also, I'd limit the Kombucha some. A little (maybe 1/2 c. a day?) would probably be alright, but it does contain some alcohol and also the detox effect might be stressful for the baby. At least, you might want to do a bit of research on this before drinking too much of it at one time.
Oh, and the EFA in Cod Liver Oil are great for baby's brain development, too!

My last pregnancy I was feeling pretty yucky for the first 4-5 months. I finally figured out it was the carbs that made me feel ill. But what would settle my stomach and was good for baby were scrambled eggs. And I'd cook them with some coconut oil and celtic sea salt. In fact I think I lived off of scrambled eggs those first few months. LOL.
I also took cod liver oil and my midwife told me the same thing. The sac was really tough. My water didn't break until his head was out. And she thought he had one of the most beautiful palates she had seen.
Congratulations again!

I forgot to mention that I also added some freeze dried liver to my diet. I only took 3 capsules a day instead of the recommended 6 because of the expense. I can't even stomach the fresh stuff. And an interesting book to read might be Nina Planck's Real Food for Mother and Baby.

Donna Marie, would you mind me asking for your recipe of homemade yoghurt in the crockpot please? I would love to do this!
Thank you!

I just pulled this thread up while looking around for more info on Kombucha - and Donna Marie, I wanted to tell you that when I was pg with Greta, it was the first pregnancy that I took CLO (I started at the end of my pregnancy with Mark, and have been taking it faithfully since...) Anyway, she was born with the sac perfectly intact also - it was amazing - we had to 'pop' it for her to get her first breath!
