Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, this is throwing me for a loop.

Elizabeth woke up with a snotty nose and slight cough this morning. No fever. She has been coughing, then gagging, then puking up clear/greenish mucusy snot.

I assume her body is just clearing it out, and other than making sure she's not getting dehydrated, do I need to worry?

I don't think it is, Lindsey. But, I'd be attentive to hydration...is she nursing? I'd allow her to nurse frequently. If she's nursing frequently and having bm's and wet dipes like normal, it's likely just a factor of this icky cold...lots of mucus, tiny airways. If you're super concerned, you could just give your pediatrician a call. My pediatrician and the nurses will sometimes just talk with me without me having to come in - letting me know what's going around, what it looks like, and what to watch for and be concerned about in a baby or high risk child.

Oh, just thought of something else, we sometimes just use a little bit of saline in the nose to thin that mucus. It might help her. You can find it on the baby aisle or medicine aisle - it's easy to find and just plain saline. The baby aisle offers those little bottles with tiny droppers so as not to overwhelm itty-bitty noses.

HTH! I'll say a prayer for little Elizabeth, and for you!

Thank you, Jennifer!

Yes, she is nursing. I'm going to keep an eye on things and just play it by ear. If anything starts to alarm me, I will call! (And I have saline in the medicine cabinet.)

It is so, so hard not to worry, even when it's probably not really a big deal.

Lindsey,
You can use saline to loosen it and then aspirate some of the mucous. Then she won't have as much running down her throat. Try to keep her more elevated when she sleeps. You can put a pillow UNDER her mattress to elevate her.

I use Hylands' Cold Plus Vitamin C for my congested babies. It works really well.

Good luck. I just hate when the little ones get sick!

Before lunch, she nursed twice and threw up after each time. But she's been fine since then! Hoping it's all said and done now.

Thank you, Jennifer and Molly.
